Orion Kelly

I don’t think that man is autistic, I think he’s a fraud. This is why. Turn down the volume on his YouTube video and watch his body language, there’s a patter to it.

(1)Moving his hands, sweeping his palm over his face when he says ‘focus’ then pointing his finger straight away when he says ‘point’, then on to the next gesture deftly and seamlessly. That is so non-autistic.

(2) Tilting his head, showing off his shiny white teeth, pushing his head forward and opening his eyes wide to express surprise then squinting back to express irony, then onto the next gesture, etc, you get the point and I haven’t even mentioned (3) his nuanced tone of voice and choice of words. I don’t recognize anything at all autistic about this.

Mr Kelly is far more expressive, persuasive and superficially charming than most neurotypical people let alone anyone autistic but it’s (4) the unblinking way he stares at the screen which gives him away.

Unblinking staring like that is often symptomatic of narcissistic personality disorder and all that implies for his other behaviours, the glib charm, the persuasiveness, the skilful self-promotion which makes Mr Kelly someone you should want to avoid not befriend.

I totally get it that some people out there love him to bits but if that were someone I knew I would try to dissuade them from him. I’m perfectly happy to reply to this.

  • To a degree, I agree. But if someone was online saying "all Junipers act and think like this, so here's what you should expect", I might become a bit critical of what they think they know.

    1. Orion who? Never heard of him.
    2. I think we should be really careful about saying we can tell people are aren’t autistic by looking at their body language. Body language is not the only form of communication issue autistic people can suffer from and some autistic people mask really well especially when giving speeches on monologues.
    3. there is no point 3, there is no point to the Thread. We will never be able to test this theory and I doubt this Orion bloke cares what we think.
  • "AI, can you talk like an argumentative British aspie with a tendency to go nuclear once in a while?"

"Yes. I was trained by the best"

  • That's the truth. I worked in a British school, and almost every student had the same attention span of a goldfish. The teachers had to speak one sentence at a time otherwise students could not keep focus. I am sure that anybody under 35 could not read a paper book if it was required to save his life.

  • How remarkably patronising. Oh well.

  • If I am correct, he is AuDHD.

I do think that ADHDers tend to be more expressive, thus explaining his ease with gestures.

  • Are we sure he's not actually ADHD misdiagnosed Autistic? There is a lot of this going around.

  • This is definitely my favourite comment of the week.

  • On reflection, in addition, there are many young ladies with their heads screwed on making the most of their brains. But you don't hear about those ones in such sensationalist manners.

  • lets hope they dont feed it too many of my comments then because the ai bot will be difficult and argumentative at times and become a nuclear chat bot.

  • Fishing for bots (my preferred description) is never stressful.

I do it because I like to understand things that I find myself "rubbing along with."  I'm not looking for trophies and see no "win" in sight.....I just want to better understand what they are, how they operate, what they try to achieve....and how to spot them.

It is inevitable that some humans will present themselves as bot.......because the bots all learn from humans!

If this particular OP is a human, then I am still able to stand by my original post in response to theirs.  I am not accusing anyone of being or doing anything.....I am merely making observations in a similar (but more polite) fashion to those of the OP.

  • Hi, I just meant all of us were waiting, it's  telling when there is no response from them...

I hope your bot-hunting isn't stressful, I am quite enjoying your detective work and reading your deductions!

  • How did we get our priorities so wrong....

  • I don't mind at all.  I should imagine that your explanation is the most likely in most cases here, but there are also plenty of other exercised reasons that might apply in some instances.

  • No - not particularly......it feels like I'm howling at the moon when I "respond" to these "things" on here.  They have "corresponded" with me a few times before (perhaps 4 or 5 exchanges)....and those can be interesting!

I generally only bother when I think there might be some value in alerting other humans here about what is going on.

  • 2) Automated, computer generated, spam bots that also pop-up here to try and sow God knows what ?!

If you do not mind, I can tell you. Social media engineers use free forums like this to train simple AI for the chatbots. You let the AI interact with the userbase for a while, in order to absorb the writing patterns and the language. Later, the output is incorporated in a larger AI so you can prompt things like "speak like an high functioning autistic English man" or "speak like a young low functioning autistic American woman".

    Welcome to the future, mate.

  • .... waiting for it's "happy..reply"....

  • I learned about ASD via books. You know, those strange things used by old people like me to learn things.

  • I don’t recognize anything at all autistic about this.

Well, that is interesting because I don't recognise anything autistic about this authored post above either.

    The 'thoughts', accusations and writing in the OP are simply typical of two types of presences here on this forum;

    1) NT human trolls that pop-up here to try and spread harm

    2) Automated, computer generated, spam bots that also pop-up here to try and sow God knows what ?!

Being autistic, I don't feel the need to accuse NAS92453 of being anything at all, but (again, because I am autistic) I do feel the need to rebalance written opinions and observations - especially if there is a besmirched party involved who is not here to defend themselves.

  • Autistic YouTubers can be a vital source of information - without YouTube, I probably wouldn't have realised that I'm autistic or sought an official diagnosis. They can also provide a human face to autism when so many people believe in stereotypes such as Rain Man. Autistic YouTubers (Hunter Hansen, Adult with Autism, Yo Samdy Sam, Foster on the Spectrum - to name just a few) have been a huge source of comfort to me and many others.
