It's bonfire weekend and there are displays taking place everywhere over these few days so I thought I'd ask you all whether you enjoy them?
I think they're pretty and I do like watching them however I dislike the impact they have on wildlife and animals.
I love fireworks all the time
I don’t mind them I think they are okay. But I wouldn’t go and watch a firework display I don’t see the big deal it’s just a firework I don’t find them that exciting that I would go and watch them lol. I do get a fright sometimes when they go off and I’m not expecting it.
I am very scared of them, they are too loud and jumpy for me and they move and do too many unexpected actions for me to enjoy. I do like photo of them though, they can be pretty. :)
Yeah, sudden loud bangs really are not fun!
I like them, if i know they are planned, and not a sudden thing
Thanks Debbie, he likes hugs!
Fireworks should definitely be silent... then at least it wouldn't be so distressing for animals, and the people who don't like the noise either.
I'm very sorry to read that Pegg.
It's particularly galling when it's not even residents.
Fireworks for domestic use should be silent.
A big hug to your dog from the forum
I've been to an occasional display, in the past, but not now for some years.
Where I live it's unpredictable - no organized displays close by, but visitors staying in nearby holiday lets bring fireworks some years.
This year has been really awful, fireworks on Saturday and Sunday, going on for hours. My poor dog, he's so scared of the noise, barking and crying like a frightened puppy. It was very hard to comfort him and even now he's on high alert, barking at the tiniest noise. It was so stressful for him and for me.
I really wonder why fireworks are so easy to buy, when they can be dangerous, also people never think of the impact on animals. I'm sure it wasn't just my dog who was scared.
I think I could potentially enjoy them at a well-organised official display. Hearing them go off randomly in people's back gardens is horrible because they're so unpredictable.
My dog actually copes better than I do- he doesn't want to be outside when fireworks are going off, but as long as he's indoors they don't seem to bother him at all. I wish I could say the same about myself!
it worked a treat and he was able to calm down and sleep.
Brilliant news
I agree with all of this! Well put.
My cat was incredibly anxious earlier and I popped on here quickly and saw this comment and immediately went to play this for him, it worked a treat and he was able to calm down and sleep.
Bless.
That's quite reassuring for you though.
I hope he/she enjoys the evening
My cat is confounding expectations by sitting at the window watching fireworks
Our cat is presently listening to the Classic FM for pets programme.
I happened to read an online article in my local newspaper that mentioned the UK law on fireworks and timing restrictions. It stated that fireworks can be used any time between 7am and 11pm. This extends to midnight on Bonfire Night, and to 1am on New Year's Eve, Diwali, and Chinese New Year.
When I read the article, I considered it crazy that it's perfectly legal to set off fireworks during daylight hours.
Personally, I think the law needs changing:
1) Limit ALL fireworks to "special occasions" like Bonfire Night, New Year's Eve, etc.
2) Limit noisy fireworks to organised displays only (the kind funded by local councils).
3) People wishing to have their own private displays in their gardens will only be able to purchase quiet fireworks. This should also include the likes of pubs and football clubs in residential areas.
4) Change the legally permitted time from 7am to dusk at the earliest (when people will actually be able to see and appreciate them).
I think they are pretty to watch and used to enjoy the ones with whooshes. I just wish the bangs weren't so loud. The volume of some of them must be very frightening for anyone who has been in a war zone.
That is something which honestly confuses me as well especially as I seen on the news yesterday that youths were using them to attack one another with and then letting them off at buildings.
Yeah, I'd love them to ban the sale for public use as I fully believe its that which causes a lot issues.
I’d love to see Bonfire Night being banned as this would put an end to fireworks
