Would you be my muse?

I've started writing a novel and I'm going to be including a handful of minor autistic characters.  The main characters are autistic too, but I don't want to give too much away.

Would anyone like to be an inspiration for a minor character?   If so, let me know a few details below.  Favourite colour, favourite stims, personal mannerisms or quirks or things you enjoy.  How much you talk out loud or in other ways.

This is purely voluntary and I won't pay you. ;)

I could make up a few things, but you lot do make me smile and it's my way of offering a thankful tribute.

  • I see certain letters as if they're too close together. Plus, I'm a twonk. Smiley

  • Would you be my nose?

I love your misreadings! I did literally LOL at this one.

  • The best type of writing in my opinion :)

I love fantasy books and stories Heart

  • I’d be more than happy to share some of the information you’d need, but can’t really see myself as being what you’re necessarily looking for (not being self-deprecating here, just genuinely unsure if I could be of use).

  • Tbh when I clicked on this thread I half expected you to ask to paint me like ‘one of your French girls.’ So there’s an autistic character trait for you. A fascination in the smutty and vulgar and a brain that finds ways to link every comment back to something lurid. Often by means of innuendo. Because it’s not only trains and stamp collecting that lodges itself in the single track autistic brain. Sometimes it’s a love of ribald humour.

  • I wish you all the best with this and think it's wonderful that your novel will feature autistic characters. There are so many wonderful members on here that you could base your minor characters on, and I think it's rather lovely and touching of you to want to offer a thankful tribute.

Plastic (sadly deceased) was before my time, but having read some of his contributions to this site, perhaps one of your characters could be based on him? I'm aware that he was a much-liked, worldly-wise member.

If you're stuck in terms of willing volunteers to be your muse, you could always base the minor characters on more than one person. For example, you might know of a member here that favours a particular colour, another member that favours a particular stim, and a third member that has a particular quirk. The result? Three members that have inspired the creation of one of your minor characters.

  • ‘Yes, I am. Thanks for acknowledging me after all these years.’

  • Luna April

This is the sort of lovely, imaginative and evocative name that really should be the name of a star.

  • Can I message you with a couple of ideas that I've had from your profile?

  • Thank you! I'm do glad it works.

My words are magical. I like writing fantasy type stuff.

  • That's a brilliant image you conjured up. I feel as if I'm standing there, feeling the slow and quiet travel of the water.

  • Better than me - I thought it was 'Would you be my nose?'

  • I’ve got to stop skim reading, I read the post as,”would you be my nurse?” Smiley

  • That sounds really peaceful ^^

The one I have in my mind so far is standing barefoot in a stream, carefully placing twigs and stones to adjust the flow of the water to make beautiful patterns.

You're welcome to use my name for one of your characters. It's my first and middle - Luna April :-)

When I was writing I was thinking of making a character called Luna April but I don't write now. You're welcome to use it if it works for you. I can't really help you with traits and personality, sorry :/

    Slight smile

  • Oh you guys, stop being so self depreciating.  You're all pretty ausome.

Obviously I'm the main character. XD

So it's sort of like the main is bring brought into the autistic world, led by her friend, who introduces her to some other people.  Just like one paragraph on each one. And I'd like those other people to based in real experience.

If you'd all rather not be in the limelight, that's understandable too, but don't underestimate how interested you are or my ability to make something magical out of it.

The one I have in my mind so far is standing barefoot in a stream, carefully placing twigs and stones to adjust the flow of the water to make beautiful patterns.

  • Fabulous idea. You should defos write about yourself though, you have a lot of amazing qualities that would make an interesting character! ^^

I would offer myself but I'm super boring lol and there's lots of other amazing people here better for you to ask :-)

Best of luck with your book!

  • That’s a lovely gesture and I wish you well with the novel , Glitter. You’ll deffo need someone with less boring traits than my own, but I’m sure a fair few of the interesting characters round here might fit the bill and enjoy the novelty of being subtly, if partially, immortalised in print.

  • To be honest, Tink, you could do a lot worse than feature a version of yourself. Slight smile
