Ride London 100

I have set up this thread with the purpose of inspiring all members of the NAS RL100 team who are taking on this challenge.

The chat can be about anything broadly related to this ride.  For example:

  • Why this challenge and why are you doing this
  • Who inspired you
  • Discussions about your training
  • Discussions about your fundraising
  • Use it for obtaining tips from experienced members of the team
  • You can identify the level of experience that you already have and what your personal goal is
  • Setting up training rides or routes
  • Discussing how you are going to tackle Newlands Corner, Leith Hill or Box Hill
  • What other members of your family are going to do during your ride

It doesn’t matter if you are looking for a PB of less than 5 hours or even if you will even be delighted at beating the nine hour time limit, we will all be experienced cyclist at the end of this experience and all contributions are welcome.

PS.  Apparently Kate Donohue is also going to be contributing to this thread!
  • Hi all

For me iI'm doing it for several reasons the first being to support a cause close to my heart as my oldest daughter was diagnosed with autism last year, on top of that is the achievement of riding 100miles (currently longest ride is only 65!) And finally to be part of an amazing event. 100 kiles of closed roads with a vast array of sightseeing from the inner city smoke to the surrey hills.

I've now somehow managed to pass the 600 minimum fundraising target which has certainly helped motivate me on the early morning training rides 6 days a week.

As for post race food/drink as much as I'd love a nice cold Belgium beer after ill have to stick to tea as ive got to drive home afterwards at somr point!  food wise anything that is normal food as a six hours of regular soreen flapjack and energy gels will be a bit boring.

Any more news on the post ride reception ? Will there be he ability to head there after the ride to change and then leave the bike to rest while we watch the rest of the team come back ?

    Marc

  • Kate,

    Recovery food

From experience after a century ride I am usually quite hungry and a good carbohydrate/protein rich meal I find greatly helps kick start the recovery process.

After all the sports drink, gells and wine gums that I have consumed on the ride, savoury food as an alternative such as an Italian type pasta dish usually works well for me.

A nice mug of tea will also be a welcomed to help with the required fluid replacement.

  • Hi all,

I just wanted to thank Arran first and foremost for setting up this thread, and to let you all know that I'll be keeping an eye on your comments and questions and most importantly, that I'm here to help.

So - let's get the ball rolling with our first (very deep and intellectual) discussion: what kind of treats would you like us to bring along to our cheer point on the day?

Thanks so much everyone and let me know if I can help...

    Kate x
