Hard going.

Im 53 and recently diagnosed with autism although I've known for years I am autistic. Ive had a tough year. Diagnosed with liver chirossis,  emergency operation for a strangulated bowel. Been off work since end of April,  having to claim universal credit and pip as im in poor health and getting very little from universal credit has left me no choice but to go back to work part time on a trial basis and I know physically its going to do me in. Whenever I sit down im constantly being bombarded by thoughts and its now really taking its toll on my mental health. Not even sure i should be posting this on here but my head feels so full.

  • Hello Neil,

Please know that you are not alone in feeling as you do.  My diagnosis was recent, like yours, and like you, I have thought I was autistic for some time.  Also, like you, I have had some serious health issues of late, culminating in emergency surgery a year ago.  There are times when I feel that I'm a fraud or worthless because of the burden I place on people around me.  But then I understand that it's not my fault.

It sounds like you have a lot happening in your life; that's OK. Things will sort themselves out in time if you let them.  Nicola has already pointed out services that may help, and I know there are many here who have had similar experiences and will listen and support you as well.

Good luck, and be kind to yourself.
