Still dealing with work stuff from 7 years ago

Workplace trauma coming back up

When the past shows up most Saturday

Rough night. 7 years ago I tried something new, big life change, and it all went sideways at work. Had a massive panic attack + was sick. Got ambushed twice by old coworkers begging me to come back. One of the bullies even asked me to add her on FB and I said no. Something went wrong. The impossible assignment was banking.

The Problem was that there regular person quit and the other person was going away. I was the second person to try this. Both lasted 4 Hours. Some people knew I couldn't do it and my family said I can do this. Duh you needed a banking degree. Basically I couldn't go back. The phantom OH appointments and threatening letters. Expecting you to attend during covid?

Fast forward to now and I still see one of them every Saturday. They’ll say hi to me and blank the other person and it just brings it all back.

Just putting it out there. If anyone else has had work stuff follow them years later, I’d love to know I’m not weird for still feeling it.

》Fast forward to 2022-present is that occasionally I go to a group. The reason is that I was invited as didn't know what's happening with the library volunteers. Also going to song of praise and back up list for delivering the community magazine.

》backwards when people don't understand, are you on your way to work? are you working? Think it's the first thing they can think off to say. Trying to explain the group. Few days later repeat the cycle. Family tried to plan for my future.  End of the day it's up to me.

How do I get through to people?

  • I am so sorry to hear that you're struggling at the moment.  I am sure many people can relate to ruminating on difficult times, even if they happened a long time ago.  And having to be reminded of them regularly makes things even worse!  It's good to hear that it sounds like you have some positive social experiences in your life now though with attending your group.

It may be worth speaking to your GP in the first instance about how you are feeling, if you haven't already.  They will be best informed on how to assist you, and can refer you for further support such as talking therapies, if that is something you would like to pursue.
The NAS page on anxiety might also have some information that is relevant to the feelings you describe, i.e. ruminating and panic attacks.

You may also be interested in having a look at What support is available if I am unable to work? if you need any assistance or support in that area.

    Best of wishes to you.
