struggling

Hi, this is my first post. I am a single parent to a 15 year old daughter who has adhd and autism. Im also studying to become a teacher and I am really struggling at the moment. My daughter has a lot of medical issues that require medical treatment, however, she cannot tolerate most medications due to being unable to swallow tablets and unable to tolerate the taste of liquid medications. She has to have two teeth removed today due to swelling. She cannot be put under GA and has to have it at the regular dentist. If it becomes infected, she will need antibiotics but cannot take them, she literally vomits when she tries. Even after managing to swallow, it comes back up. I don't even think I am writing for advice, just for some recognition. Everything is difficult with her and I am facing it on my own, her dad lives hours away and hardly sees her. I have reached burnout again and have no motivation or joy in life. if anyone has any words of comfort, they would be greatly received. An exhausted mum.

  • Dear Gem1223,

Thank you for reaching out to the online community, it sounds like a really challenging set of circumstances. I hope our online community is able to help support you as a family.

I know you are not looking for advice but in terms of future support terms it may be worth reaching out to your GP or dentist ahead of medical/dental treatment as they may have some more specialist advice than I am able to offer. I have also included My health passport - this is a really helpful tool that you and your daughter may be able to look at together,

As you mentioned you have also been struggling to cope, I thought it may help for you to take a look at the NAS Parent to Parent Emotional Support Helpline - this is run by a lovely group of trained volunteers who can help with emotional wellbeing of parents.

It is really good to have you as part of our online community and I am really sorry to hear that you are struggling. Please continue to reach out to us for support and guidance. We are here for you.

    Best wishes,
