Hello All

Hi

I'm male, 51, and diagnosed with autism last year - though they won't tell me where I am on the spectrum.  I'm quite high-functioning.  I have a job doing Admin. for the NHS, and have my own flat though I hate being on my own so spend a lot of time at the family home.

It feels good to finally understand my stimming.

I've written a Pantomime which has been performed in the UK and Australia.  This has bought me a couple of pairs of Doc Martens!  I've written four audience-interactive murder mysteries too, all performed but not published.  I used to sing, and want to get back into it.

So that's me.

Hello all!

  • Hello there

I’m not sure what you mean when you say “ They won’t tell me where I am on the spectrum”

it’s not linear where you’re on a different place on a line, you’re either autistic or not, although people require varying levels of support.

  • I'd heard it was exactly like being in a place on a line, so when I got an e-mail saying I was autistic, I asked where I was on the spectrum, and apparently they don't do it like that now.  I thought the phrase 'Autistic Spectrum Disorder' was common, but it appears not to be in common usage any more.

  • I'd heard it was exactly like being in a place on a line

No, it's not a line. It's more that there's a range of symptoms and we each have varying amounts of different symptoms. Some are common to everyone, some not. Even with the ones we all share (the socio-communication ones), we have different levels of problems with different aspects. So I could be really good at one aspect and terrible at another.

    Welcome to the group.
