38, Autistic and Stuck

Hello all.

I was diagnosed with AuDHD a few months ago.

I still have no idea what I am trying to learn. Great- there's a 'label' for me, but the after care and support was so poor, I just feel like I was prescribed with medication and then off on my way. I have been reading books and trying to learn a bit more about myself, other people and the world, but it hasn't been easy. I struggled my whole life- blamed with reckless behaviour, troubled child, teenager and adult, constantly prescribed with anxiety and depression medication since I was 18 years old, and well, the trauma that came with all of that was horrendous. Life was affected and impacted so severely and all I was ever told was take your medication and go to therapy.

I struggle with my behaviour- I'm offensive to some people, sometimes my loved ones, seen as erratic, and reckless at times. I've been told 'to be normal'. My brain is constantly overwhelmed, which leads to constant fatigue, and the vicious cycle just goes on and on.

I don't hide that I am neurodivergent, but I do get the odd 'ohhh, so that why you're so weird!' It doesn't bother me, well, sometimes it does, but I wish there was more support, more learning tools and education. I wish life was easier.

  • Hi welcome to the community. Looks like we can help ourselves better than others... at least in some cases. I hope you find here support and like minded people. I'm not sure if the trauma after being told my whole life that there is something wrong with me ever goes away. I feel like being programmed to not be self confident
