Respite in Brighton and Hove

Hey all! Im looking for some help. Summer holidays have been a handful. I have a 12 year old son with ASC and learning disabilities and a 6 year old daughter with ASC and epilepsy, both are non speaking. Im a single parent with the dad not involved. I dont have family support. Both parents and grandparents have passed over. So im looking for any help. I can manage most times, however I suffer with PMDD which makes it 10 times difficult to mother my children. Any direction of help and services would be appreciated.

  • Hi TEG,

Thank you for sharing, we have a few places you may want to look to for support for help:

The Parent to Parent Emotional Support Service provides emotional support to parents and carers regarding their autistic children/grown-up children. The service is provided by trained volunteers with personal experience as the parent of an autistic child or adult. Our focus is on emotional support and understanding what it is like for you as a parent. We offer empathy, understanding, and a safe space to talk through your feelings and experiences. To request a call, complete a web enquiry form here: https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/help-and-support/parent-to-parent-helpline

Our Advice and Guidance page may be helpful including Ask ASH. Ask ASH is a quick way to find the right pages on our website. Answer a few multiple choice questions and we'll show you the advice, stories and services that fit your situation.

Finally, there is also the Autism Service Directory where you may be able to find local help or specific help related to your needs.

I hope something in this will be helpful for you as well as responses from the community when they respond.

    Best wishes,
