Hello.

Hey there!

My name is Tom. I’m autistic and really a bit of a loner, I spend most of my time writing and coding. I like to keep fit, I do go out, it’s just people tend to spook me so I tend to be alone a lot. I have a deep love and special interest with aliens… Don’t we all!? Sadly my family don’t but I adopted a really cool dog called Elvis who I chat to about aliens instead. He’s really happy, turns out he’s big on extraterrestrial stuff too!

I like listening to music whenever I can. I own a great array of CDs and records. Same with books, I enjoy reading every now and then but half the books I buy I yet to even read! I’m good at buying stuff and then never using it.
Another kind of special interest for me is electrics. After school (27 now) I did train to become an electrician but during that time I had a bit of a mental health crisis and I haven’t gone back to it. I currently work as a programmer which I get to do at home, win-win for me. I’m still interested in electrics and in my spare time do up old electrical items like games consoles and old record players, Elvis helps of course…

I have two sisters, I’m the youngest, yep growing up with them was unimaginable pain, torture and tears. We live with our mum, who I am certain is also autistic but she’s undiagnosed.

Thanks for reading my introduction. Have a good day and keep being awesome. Alien

  • Daniken, Sitchin, tablets of Enki and… Bible. It all started with the Bible. While reading it I started getting some ideas that it might have been a technology out of this world. Then I had fun reading Bible with this new lens. My hero is David Grusch. Last time I really enjoyed my aliens was around a year ago. I spent whole Christmas week in hospital with Covid. All family was “sorry” for me having such a bad Christmas. No, it was really fun! I’m also excited about the possibility of other civilisation in the stars. Proxima B, Sirius, Arcturus etc.

  • Ground control to Major Tom - the new name is looking good! Thanks for your reply to me - I'm replying back up here because thread replies can get lost when lots of people join in the conversation.

You say that the name Major Tom ties in with one of your favourite songs - Space Oddity was one of the things that started my interest in Bowie in 1976 and I saw him perform live in the summer of 1978. He also played an alien in the movie "The man who fell to Earth" - I liked the movie, but thought the book was better. Have you seen that movie or read the book?

I'm not particularly into aliens, but I like some movies & books with them in, including Men in black, Independence day, Cowboys & Aliens, and if course the classic 'Alien' with Sigourney weaver.

You asked about what books and games I enjoy. My all time favourite games are Fallout 4, Sims 4, Assassins creed Origins, Odyssey & Valhalla, and Hogwarts Legacy. I've also recently been Playing Lego Star wars and Lego Harry Potter, and I often play Pure Chess. I have read so many books in my lifetime that there are too many books I like to list them all, but some of my favourite authors have been Stephen King, Arthur C Clarke, Stephen Donaldson, Iain Banks, Ben Elton, Keith A  Pearson and Shawn Inmon, and  recently I've been reading thrillers by Freida McFadden.

Glad you are feeling better after having a migraine and hope you enjoy chatting with us.

  • I do like music, a bit of everything really. A lot of classical stuff, gothic rock like the Fields of the Nephilim, fleetwood Mac, I like the Killers too etc yes I’m a big Dragon fan and all things fantasy

  • Hi Lotus, thanks for the welcome, and for the cool name idea... I actually really like that and will change my name in due course as it ties in with aliens Alien and also with one of my favourite songs so can't really not do it can I? Grinning

Great to meet you Lotus. What books do you enjoy reading and what games do you play? I enjoy both as well. Sometimes it's hard to focus enough to read but I have shelves and shelves full of books. I game most days, if I can!

I'm glad I'm not the only one... I like people but not a people person. That sums me up so well but most people usually don't understand it. I think you have to be autistic to really appreciate this.
I think you're right about everyone else being the aliens Wink I just hope they come in peace!

Thanks Lotus, I haven't participated much yet as I had a migraine and spent most of last night and today in bed but feeling better now so will lurk and post around.

  • Hi Alien0n3arth... cool username, took me an absolute age to type out though ha Grin

I think it's fascinating you are in to ancient aliens rather than the more common modern alien fascination. Do you have a favourite alien experience?

Or a favourite series/book to do with aliens? There's a lot of podcasts to do with aliens now which I used to avoid but now I am growing more to like the more I hear them.

Sorry you don't have as much time to obsess anymore, life sucks when it gets in the way like that. I hope you have more free time soon to spend with the aliens Alien

  • Hello, thank you. I find it all very intriguing and wonder what it must be like on other worlds, if they are highly populated, if they are advanced as us or are far more primitive. Sadly, if the human race ever finds out I won't live to see it... But the thought does fascinate me!

I love Rendlesham forest. @Number there is definitely plenty of walkng to do there. The surrounding scenery is breathtaking to take in. My grandparents took me when I was 13, best birthday of my life! If I learn to drive in time I want to go back there. If you ever go I'd advise taking a camera, water and probably a notebook to jot things down in.

  • Thank you Slight smile I am in to a lot of music. Some of my favourites are The Killers, Tom Petty, Talking Heads, Charlie Puth, Queen, Daivid Bowie, John Denver, James Blunt and I have become a huge fan of Dua Lipa.

Do you like music? Or dragons...? I just saw your profile picture... Very cool!

  • Hello fellow programmer! I enjoy problem solving too, it gets the grey matter turning over and if successful then I always feel proud at the end. For me it started with video games that I would hack and mix up a bit, when I was a kid games were single player so hacking didn't ruin the enjoyment for others.

In the end I enjoyed coding so much I moved on to websites and software.

The fact I can do it as a job is all the more better as it is something I enjoy and get to do from home.

Good idea with the list. This is something I most definitely should start doing! Smile

  • Yes, it is a well laid out trail. Information is on the forest website. Good car parking near to the East Gate. I stayed at a rented cottage in nearby Bawdsey.

  • Hello Tom and welcome. I'm also a programmer (I suppose software developer more technically) which I enjoy for the problem solving. I also seem to collect large list of things to consume but don't have the time to complete - which is quite annoying for a completionist like myself! One way I work around that is to make a list of it all, occasionally prioritise it so more important stuff is at the top, then I don't need to think about what to read/watch/do next, it's just the next in line.

I hope you enjoy this community.

  • Welcome Tom to the forums. What kind of music are you into?

  • Rendlesham forest

This is on my to-do list.  Is it good - can you get a decent walk through/in there?....circa 5 miles?

  • Hello and wellcome. I am interested in the possibility of other civilizations in the universe. I visited Rendlesham forest two years ago and enjoyed walking by the famous East gate and the alleged landing site.

  • Hi Tom! Welcome to the community! As you can see on my profile picture and name, I’m also into aliens. Especially ancient aliens, Erich Von Daniken, Sitchin, Nibiru Anunnaki etc. now I have less time to obsess about them and it leaves my life tasteless, but I still love them. I wish you find connections and support here.

  • Hi and welcome to the forum. If you have an interest in aliens, maybe your name should be Major Tom! Slight smile

Im female, married, in my sixties and retired. I love reading and playing video games.

I read your introduction in your profile and you said "I like people but I'm not a people person". That's very much how I am - actually there are some people I don't like, but as a species they are interesting. I studied social sciences because I was so interested in them. I know some autistic people feel like an alien, but I feel more like most people around me are aliens!

Hope you enjoy being part of the community.

  • Hello Andrew, thank you for the welcome.

I only recently started buying records; I’ve been collecting CDs since I was a kid. I haven’t heard of The Pigeon Detectives, I will have to listen to some of their music. I like a lot of groups and singers: The Killers, Elvis Presley, Queen, The Beautiful South, Tom Petty and many others...

    Take care, Andrew!

  • Hi Tom.

I'm Andrew. Welcome to the forum. I have autism as well.

I see that you like music, I'm into quite a bit myself. I too own lots of CDs but I don't own any records. I've been listening to The Pigeon Detectives a lot lately, I already have albums 1-5! I'm getting their latest one soon.

    Bye for now.

  • Good point. Thanks for posting the definition, loner is the wrong word, I’m not sure what the word is but I think we all know it. I want to be social with people, I enjoy being social like we are now, that is the social interaction that works best for me. I would like to be able to interact in the normal and conventional way but when I do I get worked up and anxious...

Believe me, it is NOT a pretty sight for anyone to have to witness.

And that is a shame as believe it or not I am actually quite a charismatic character in my own little way.

As with you, I am not antisocial, I may come across that way but it is unintentional and certainly not true. I tend to wonder a lot how it would be if I wasn’t autistic. Would I be better at interacting with others? But perhaps that is a discussion for a different time.

For now I am content typing online and chatting with Elvis Slight smile
