Have you moved across the country while reliant on government help? I think I need to...

Hello Wave

I just turned 40. I have autism and related difficulties. I rely on PIP, UC, Council tax support etc. I have no savings. I want/need to move out of Grimsby. I know leaving the town won't be a miracle solution to everything, but this place has been grinding me down so much over these four decades.

I want to go to a place close to but not necessarily in a city. Somewhere quiet but with connections and such. Somewhere in the Calder valley sticks out. Thing is, places like hebden bridge look like rent and waiting lists will be sky high, and I imagine they're more private rented than social housing. (I'd prefer the latter for security/piece of mind).

Long story short, my circumstances make me feel trapped here. Has anybody successfully done similarly to what I want? I don't necessarily need specific instructions right now but some success stories would build up my delicate confidence and optimism. :)

Thanks for reading.

  • I’ve consider this too. But I have a teen son who lives close by. When he is much older I might do this. In the same situation as yourself relying on government for help I’ve just had to flee due to DA and my data was exposed so on the move again. The stress isn’t great to say the least.

I wish you all the best in whatever you decide.
