Flu and hospitalisario

Hi. My 8 year old non verbal complex needs son has been in hospital for a week after flu A which has prevented him drinking amd eating orally. He has been on IV fluids but they took him off last night and his blpos sugars dropped. He has made a bit of a breakthrough this morning and drank 300ml of mix of water and Pediasure. The medical help has been very eractic and i have lost confidence. Has anyone been in sumilar situarion

I found in hospitals where you are trying to advicate for someone who has limited ability to ask for help is to find the person in charge of the ward or rooms and try to get them on your side, but if they are rude or avoidant then to make yourself a polite nuisance to the point where they will give the care just to get you off their back.

There is a fine line between being a nuisance and a problem that will get you kicked out so be careful not to cross this.

If they do turn things around then be sure to thank them afterwards - the positive reinforcement is a good way to encourage them to do it for others too.

The root cause is lack of resource caused by NHS underfunding and this is not a problem that will go away anytime soon I'm afraid.
