Favourite shops, online and off

I thought I'd start a thread where we can list our favourite places to buy simple things or things that should be simple and use it as a sort of reference guide.

My favourites for shoes, are moshulu, a small firm in Devon that make beautiful shoes for British shaped feet, they're a bit expensive, but they last a long time so are worth it. The other place I sometimes get shoes from is Hotter, mostly I get my walking boots from them as their shoes have gone a bit aggy, the boots are good as the womens sizes go up to an 8, they do wide fit too.

One of the shops I sometimes use for clothes is Laganlook.co.uk, mostly for tops as their trousers are about 3 or 4 inches to short for me

If I wanted wool for knitting or anything else I'd go to wool couture, pure wool and lovely colours, although they seem to do more crafty stuff than wool for clothes making, it's expensive, but lovely, another British company.

For bedding I'm a TKMAXXX girl, good quality cotton sheets, pillow slips and duvet covers at bargain prices, I have some pillow slips from them that are 100% cotton with a 500 thread count, they're so soft, they were only £7:99 a pair.

  • On another note, if anyone does have recommendations for an online shop for nice women's PJ's?

    White Company but very expensive.

I found a voucher but usually shop in the sale or use gift money.

I am 5 8 ish and the trousers and sleeves have to be rolled up.

  • On another note, if anyone does have recommendations for an online shop for nice women's PJ's? I am a bit longer limbed, so suffer from things being too short in the leg and arm too. They always seem to make PJ's on the short side.

  • I like that  , sometimes we make a meal special by putting down a table cloth, a few candles, folding some paper towels into napkins, maybe even the wine glasses even though we aren't having wine.

In lockdown, we sometimes used to make a café or restaurant for the kids, putting on café music (all sorts of playlists on Spotify), making a menu, a sign for the kitchen door. Then we'd call the kids and they would play along delighted. I've never thought of getting dressed up for it, would be one step further and more fun, though we'd still be needing to act the waiters and chefs (though if it was a bake, it would give time to get changed while it's cooking...)

  • I don't have anyone who can dog sit, I dont' have any non-ordinary clothes, we always eat at the table.

  • how about one day (when people can dog sit for you) wear your nice clothes and do things that you like doing e.g. reading, crafting, watching tv/films etc. and at least for one meal make it fancier like posh knives and forks, food you wouldn't normally have on a general day etc. That way it's a special day for yourself and you get to wear nice clothes! (if you can, could also get someone else to prepare / cook the meal!)

  • I know the feeling about having nice clothes that never get worn, I spend my time gardening, dog walking and cooking, leaning out chickens and other glamourous tasks. For me achance to wear "good" clothes is going shopping or to the doctors.

I get my coats online from amazon I've had variations on a long ladies waterproof riding coat for years now. I get walking boots from Hotter as they're the only ones that fit and last more than a couple of months.

It would sort of be nice to have somewhere to wear nice clothes to, but then would come the stress and hassle of finding something to fit, overcoming social phobia enough to go somewhere where nice clothes would be worth wearing, getting all the shoes and stuff to go with nice clothes and being able to afford it all.

  • I shop a lot on the Next online site, mainly as there is a shop in the town my husband does the food shopping in, so it's easy to return stuff to store if anything doesn't work out (this is a important for me as if i have to post it back, it quite often doesn't happen in time, and he can do the returns for me). It's mainly for the kids clothes really, and very occasionaly for my self or husband. Although the last thing I got was pj's, and it was awful, the current fashion is to have an elasticated waistband on the top! I wore them one, night, and didn't sleep much as I could only think of wanting to cut the elastic all night. I need some new ones but now I'm worried about that happening again.

The last couple of years I got some tops from Chris Packham's teemill online shop, organic cotton, as wearing things like a periodic table of british bats makes me happy. But I tried a top in 'relaxed fit', and it was cut so far up the sides as to be flappy and show my sides, so I can only wear it under a jumper which defeats the point.

I also got a bunch from the wildlife trusts clothing website, as again, I get a bit of a boost from wearing my interest. I've never masked my wildlife geekiness, so it feels good to show it off (mainly to the other parent's at school pick-up as I don't really go anywhere else very often, unless it's to the library or taking the kids out somewhere).

I got some dresses from a sale on Boden once, they were nice but sadly highlighted that I don't go out anywhere to wear them.

Shoes, and coats tend to be from millets or other outdoor shop, for sturdy walking shoes and a practical coat.

  • My son like sketchers shoes, he has flat feel and they're one of the few brands he finds comfortable.

You know Inever had a pair of trainers! I've tried some on and either I've not been able to get my feet into them because they're to shallow and I have high arches and instep, or the couple of pairs I did manage to get on felt horrible, like walking on marshmallows, I didn't know where my feet ended and the trainers started, it was very difficult to walk in them, I think I'd be falling over all the time.

  • I like looking around shopping centers - there's one about half an hour away from home which my parents and me go to - plus we can take dog as she can go on most shops (it's an outside walking area and only shops in doors - lovely for good weather

Went there today, saw some things I liked but decided not to buy

  • I enjoy personal happiness spending on cds and books. An independent classical online store I love is Presto, for rare and second hand books I track them down  on Abe Books but after a test purchase deal directly with the seller.

  • I bought my first pair of Sketchers slip-in trainers after over a decade of wearing Clarks ones, wish I'd done it sooner.

For other clothes I'll usually go to M&S but only because I get Rewards points for using their credit card so I save on delivery charges.

We use ASDA for our groceries, but their online system was recently 'improved', resulting in much confusion around whether we've gotten what we ordered plus frequent errors. Perhaps time to switch to another supermarket?

  • No not really as the material would have to be an exact match.

  • Anime Mag

Best place for Gundam models (in Bulgaria)!

  • I like Tesco because the app tells you what is in stock in your local store and what aisle everything is in. Very helpful if you want to get in and out of the shop quickly. Though it did take me a while to figure out how it worked.

  • suppose you can't really have them altered to be longer

  • I've found some books in there as well that I want to read!

  • The Works is my "go to" for basic stationery and art materials ...plus, a quick check on their fidget toys too (cue: a purple silicone caterpillar made out of prickly little body segment balls - I cannot explain properly - just a novelty - but fun!).

  • Bonmarche is to small for me, their longest length of trousers comes to halway down my calfs!

  • I like sketchers for shoes, bonmarche for clothes, I shop at The Works for jigsaws/craft supplies etc.
