Do you miss a good discussion?

I do, people seem so afraid of causing offence that they don't seem to say anything, others are a sense of offence looking for somewhere to happen. It seems that any sort of challenge however mild is a no no, even when someone asks for clarification of a point it seems that someone will take offence on sombody elses defence.

I really enjoyed Pixiefox's AI thread, but so few people seem willing or able to engage with the issues or even ask questions, why is this?

I'd love there to be threads that are lively and topics are discussed robustly, you don't have to be rude when challenging someone's viewpoint, just be firm and say something like, 'I feel that...'

I've just finished a book on the origins of the Anglo-Saxons, it goes into linguistics, DNA, archaeology as well as the documented history, I know its a bit specialist but it would be really good to feel that it's something I could share with others.

  • Golly what a can of worms I opened here! I didn't even think anyone would bother answering and the thread would disapear into the unread ether.

The Anglo-Saxons I'm talking about are from at least 1500 years ago, not current ideological iterations on who deserves to live where and how.

So lots of people would like to be able to discuss things more freely, but are afraid to because of the people who are a sense of offence looking for somewhere to happen? Some people do want to just float along and never have a controvercy violate thier brains, but you guys don't have to join in with a thread that's contravercial and yet you do and often  it makes the whole situation worse.

I will come back to this thread as I'm to decaffienated to concentrate properly on it and I'm waiting for a call from the garage to see how my MOT went, pray for it please!

That's a very one sided judgemental viewpoint.

Have you heard of triggers and vulnerabilities?

It might be useful to read some of the threads I linked to.

I think it's up to other members to choose whether they want to respond especially if it's personally offensive and not for 'you' to say what they can and can't do.

  • Sorry Debbie thats not how I meant my answer, I know people do get triggered and I will read the threads you mentioned.
