I can only speak for myself, but I think that for some people, self-ism, where we are told to be self-sufficient, self-caring and self-loving, etc. can be insufficient in maintaining our emotional load, sense of place and purpose and we need the acknowledgement and affection of others to help us feel whole.
Some of us by nature or nurture cannot function properly by ourselves and therapy as a whole needs to understand that, in my opinion rather than dispense throwaway phrases.
A particiular unwise person once said that there was no such thing as society. But you are right we do need other people. And it's natural for people who don't fit in such as ourselves to suffer somewhat.
Personally I prefer the company of animals to humans, a cat for cuddles and a dog to take me for walks.
I feed the neighbors pet. All of the benefits, and none of the bills. Neighbors cat straight up loves me.
But....what about....nevermind
That could be a good future idea for me. I'll have to see if my mental health improves in future as I want to be able to care for a pet properly. It wouldn't be fair for me to own one right now.
