We have a Problem Here Folks. AI imitating humans here in this place.

Perhaps I am naive.

Perhaps we can have a new "rule" making evident forms of non-human AI here as an offence.

I don't like what I see.  Or perhaps the Genie is well and truly loose, for all of us, everywhere....unless in person, face to face?

I like face to face, one on one.  Clear unavoidable transparency of reality.

  • Undoubtedly.

    Perhaps I'll become a Luddite...

  • I don't mean at this here back water. But about the whole bloody world

  • Would Alan Turing be spinning in his grave I wonder

Edit: I think 'turning' would be better as the verb

  • Yes....she has simply decided to leave here...no dramas...and I do like the fact that you asked after her.

I really like her clear and direct energy...I perceive her as a good and wise soul....so I'm sad to see her gone.

  • Unrelated, but do you know why FrozenHeart left this community?

  • Jeremy for Leeds" is just as likely to be 0010010110000101010001110,

That's true, unfortunately. I don't like it either, and am surprised by how prevalent I now consider AI profiles to be here.

It took me a while to work it out, butit was the last thing I was thinking about when I joined.

I covered a lesson before half term, a rare occurrence, but anyway- it just entailed the class watching a video about the rise of AI in the workplace and how, or if, world Labour markets could adapt.

What struck me was a popular blog, which, it turns out, is written by AI, although that wasn't initially advertised when it began.  Honestly, it read like a human had written it, I doubt most people would have realized ( and they did not, in fact) and I'm now aware that the time is probably upon us when we just won't know.

Will this mean the end of online platforms such as this? Or will we just get better at spotting AI with ever more sophisticated tech?

Certainly we will try, because AI now has the potential to compromise the integrity of everything we write.

I am a real person, whose morning break is now over Rolling eyes

Still, I may value my job all the more, knowing that AI may well replace me in a small number of years.

    Frankenstein got nothing on AI...

  • Yea - I don't mind too much about the "unconvincing" / "pointless" bots.......but the whole point, my dude, is that the foooking scary ones ARE the ones that you can't readily spot.....who seem legit....but who are not.

From a pure "reading" of what they post, I would NOT (and have been proved to not) be able to spot them as bots/AI.  It is possible to detect them, using a form of AI that I like to call autism+focus+dedication.....but you have to be present for that cause.....and it takes time to spot the patterns.....but there are patterns.

What worries me (slightly) is that this clunky NAS forum (that I now understand well) is going to change soon to a 'new and improved' version.......and I'm not sure I can be ars ed to observe it long enough to work out how I can spot the fake/bad actors within that new framework (whatever that may prove to be.)

I don't feel the "need" to be here.......but I REALLY felt that need when I first came, and if I can, I want to pay-it-forward......in memory of the likes of Plastic (God rest his soul.....he helped me, without EVER communicating directly with me.)

However, self-preservation / a propensity to avoid agg (unless I can see the foooooking whites of their eyes) is hard wired into me.......and so I am likely to leave.....like everyone (except the true jewels of this place) have done before me.

It would be sad......for the genuine newbies....if the exodus continues.....and I note that the cordial and warm welcomes have already fallen away to a trickle.  I fear that "community" and "support" is being exterminated by "tribalism" that is being brought about by effective, intrusive and illusive AI / bots.

I fear, for the souls of man......and the upcoming generation......but perhaps that is what all "older" people say!

  • This is why I no longer use twitter / X.

The majority of the posts there are automated in one way or another by people whose intentions are entirely bad.

I have seen far fewer suspicious posts here but those I have seen (including some you responded to) read like someone whose first language probably isn’t English and with motives that are hard to understand (although that latter point also applies to one or two difficult real human members of this forum).

  • I just thought I would resurrect this, just for a moment......to give a quick update.......it has been 3 weeks of research.

My heart is hardening to the fact that WE HAVE A PROBLEM HERE FOLKS.

Some of you may have noticed that I make (even weirder and more obscure than my normal) responses to some "people" who post here, in certain circumstances.  I do this to try and understand / probe my hypothesis that there is A LOT of AI / bots floating around in this place.

My interim conclusion is that there is, definitely, A LOT of AI / bots posts floating around in this place.  Presumably, this is therefore the case EVERYWHERE.

Generally, I get the impression that many people don't really care, one way or the other.....but I do.  If it is happening here in this relatively unimportant "backwater" place, then it must be absolutely rife in places where opinions are formed en mass.

All is not what it seems in the world.....all I ask, is that WE all remain aware of that fact.  "Jeremy for Leeds" is just as likely to be 0010010110000101010001110, operated by "Polling Corp Inc", let loose upon us to do whatever "Polling Corp Inc" hopes it will do.

Human rule is not necessarily brilliant (at all)........but an AI army serving the bidding of just a few humans, is defo worse.....in my opinion.

  • PLEASE do brother.......we need you here!

  • Sorry Tris. I should have a thicker skin and shouldn’t have snapped at you like that.

Maybe I’ll come back when I’m in a better frame of mind.

  • I will have to think of ways to identify AI as AI can lie as it is not founded or governed on a foundation of truth. But because of this, AI will leave patterns which differ from.human patterns in thinking and reasoning.

  •       my thinking is that bots return to the same subject of contention over and over, no matter the threads subject and often segue to it out of the blue within a thread.: like nonconsecutive.

The bot also does not read like a real person, they change opinions and are irrational, even within the same sentience. they use a lot trigger words. some sentences are just strings of trigger words. They also don't have real profiles. There is nothing really there. that's what Ive observed.

Also the grammar and syntax is always predictable, no matter how "Excited" the bot is pretending to be, they trot along at a steady pace.

  • Hi dear #, can you tell us what would be a "tell"? How are you spotting them? I think it would be fun to join in, like train spotting or something.

  • dear sunspot - you shine brightly, thank you for reminding us all of why we are here.

  • I like the internet but it's stuff like this that spoils it for me. I tried a dating app a couple o' years ago and I'm pretty sure there was AI people on there as well. It's unnerving.
A lot of sites need a proof of being human at sign up I think. It would make things a lot easier for all involved.

  • This happens a lot on a writing forum I'm on.

That's interesting to know.  Thank you.

In terms of your other question "how do we report them on here".....we write to the community manager.....but because there are no rules preventing it here (yet, hopefully)....there isn't much point !  Accordingly, that is why I started this thread in the first place.

  • This happens a lot on a writing forum I'm on. AI will normally write quickly, quicker than most people can write a message and they normally stick to just the one topic so if you talk about something else they won't change topic with you. That's a good way of telling who's who. On the writing forum we email the Admin. How do you report them on here? Either way the site Admin will be able to see each users email and normally AI have a throwaway address.

  • I don't like it either. When you already struggle with interactions and people the last thing you need is AI making it even more complex.

  • I agree, although the ones that do exist here (including the ones that 'covertly' and frequently "rebirth" themselves) are painfully obvious to many of us here.

I note that, in recent months, a HUGE proportion of the regular, longstanding and constructive members of this forum have melted away and/or have hibernated......actions that do hold great appeal amidst the current flow and discourses available.

Genuine people coming to this place with an open heart and sincere desire for connection and help .....for the first time.....are the ones who are now suffering.  Those of us lucky enough to have found those things here during more halcyon times, are the lucky ones.

Perhaps the revamp of this place by NAS will reverse the decay.  I hope so, for the good of both autistic people, and humans in general.
