Hi everyone. I’m a podcast listener as find them informative and in some ways, soothing. I’m looking for recommendations of where I can hear the experiences of the late diagnosed. I was diagnosed this year aged 50. I have noticed that when listening to people discussing their experiences in the media, when they begin talking about being late diagnosed they frame it in the context of being in their late twenties. I would be interested in hearing older peoples life experiences. Thanks in advance.
I agree with you Amerantin, Philip Wylie's book is excellent.
Ben
I’m 39 just been diagnosed
I was diagnosed at 52 and agree most of the material available is from the point of view of 20 or 30 somethings and it feels like there’s more from a female perspective than male.
It’s not a podcast but the book Very Late Diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome is written from the perspective of a 50-something man.

Doh! Thanks, that seems obvious now.
Try autistic at 40 podcast
Patrick,
Have you read Pete Wharmby's books? He was diagnosed aged 34.
'Untypical' ....'how the world isn't built for autistic people and what we should do about it.'
And his second book, "What I want to talk about" is all about his special interests..... mostly Lego.
(Assessed 'ASD High Functioning' three years ago aged 67, but I haven't written about it... yet)
You make an incredibly valid point I think the whole process needs an overhaul.
yeah true, most diagnosis and stuff are aimed at children, so ideally diagnosis should have been caught in childhood.... although i think thats flawed as any child can exhibit traits of autism but yet develope and grow neurotypically... so really later diagnosis is probably more accurate really as you have the absolute finished product alongside a entire life worth of data and evidence.
Being diagnosed in your late 20's is still a late diagnosis because that's nearing on 30.
i think he means that the 20s isnt really late, he wants later, like 50 plus.
What do you mean by “frame it in the context of being in their late twenties”?
Yes please that would be much appreciated
i know lots of youtube channels that i like who are late diagnosed. if you want i could name them.
but if youre looking for people on here then idk if i would count as late diagnosed since i havent been evaluated yet but if i am autistic (i strongly believe i am) then id be late diagnosied
