A collective noun for people on the spectrum?

Any ideas?

  • Disambiguation......as all those aged circa 40+ years old will know....a Reliant Robin was a 3 wheeled car.

  • Yes....it does....as intended....my attempt at humour.....always about as reliable as a Robin Reliant.

  • A-hole kind of seems like a$$ hole censored...

  • A posse of peculiarities

  • a Buzz, a jitter, an inspiration, a rainbow, a quandary, a storm, a divergence, a shift, a quiver

  • A-hole = collection or autists ?

It's a bit like the K-hole concept of ill-advised horse tranquilizer experimentation by da yoof?

  • Specialists of autists? Its sounds kinda weird to say and I dont know if the grammar would be correct, but I was kinda thinking how we tend to be specialists in our special interests.

  • I like that :)

  • A brilliance of Autistics.

  • I was born with a plastic spoon in my mouth….

You will know the group Debs.

  • An Assembley of Autists

    A Deluge of Divergents

  • A band of brothers & sisters?

  • A symphony of autist artistes (I was thinking of the Clean Bandit song there youtu.be/aatr_2MstrI ) Slight smile

  • I agree to this but I think majority of the world would see witches as being evil. And I have people at my school who call themselves witches and they actually do try to summon dark spirits, so even though I agree with how witches were just people who were a bit weird and stood up for what they believed in, now days because of centuries of bad association with witches I dont think it would work. In english last year I did learn that a really long time ago (way before all the witch trial madness) witches were seen as wise and beautiful and used nature to heal, etc. I wish society saw them as being good like that again, or just as being different

I do want to say that if anyone here is a witch, im not trying to say youre evil or anything. But from what I learned witches are people who try to mess with dark magic, if im wrong then id like to be corrected. I dont think purposefully being bad is good, which is why im not too keen on the idea of witches unless its in the way like in A Kind of Spark. But I feel like most portrayls of witches are shown with them being ugly and evil.

  • I thought the same, but I am not a historian. They were willing to stand out from the crowd and were different, and were punished for it. I don't like the idea of them being the devils workers it sounds like propaganda like Napoleon being short. I prefer the idea of them just being independent willing to stand out from the crowd. To see through eyes unclouded. Which is one of my favourite phrases from Studio Ghibli. Just perfect. Seeing through eyes unclouded.

  • A coven of witches.

I like this especially since in A Kind of Spark (in the series at least, I havnt read the book yet) Addie says how she thinks witches were just autistics like herself. But at the same time witches are supposed to be like the devils workers and summon demons and stuff and I dont think thats a good look-

  • A flock of autists.

We could start our own music group like A Flock of Seagulls Smiley

  • A coven of witches.

My favourite example of witches is from the wandering inn. There are probably better ones and I couldn't quite find the description in it that I was looking for but the following should some it up. Spoilers.

A leafy bough lowered, holding a hat made of leaves. The [Witch] looked Erin in the eye, not unkindly. That was just it. None of them were incapable of kindness. They might refuse to offer it, but it was in them.

Great kindness. Terrible wrath. And a desire…two vast eyes fixed Erin with a knowing look.

“IF AN ARMY STOOD BETWEEN YOU AND A SINGLE FRIEND, WOULD YOU LET IT BAR YOUR WAY?”

The reply came out of Erin.

    “No. But I wouldn’t fight them. I’d—”

Another [Witch] interrupted. The Gazer blinked at Erin.

“If a wrong exists, will you not right it, if it is within your power? Do you let injustice walk before you?”

    “That’s not—no, but—”

“I see foolhardy bravery. Burning passion. Cunning—so deeply hidden it fools even herself! All she lacks is the courage to admit what she is! I see all that is a [Witch].”

The others nodded. Erin felt like they were running over all her protests and objections, which of course was exactly what they were doing. She spread her hands.

    “—What if I fail, though?”

Califor stood up. The [Witch] adjusted her hat, and looked Erin straight in the eye.

“To be a [Witch] is to try. You need not even bother to try. Do you think we would leave it to chance? You can struggle or protest or run. We will make you a [Witch]. Yet we will ask. Will you give it your all?”

  • It's not just for autism. People with MS use spoon theory to cope with what is known as 'MS fatigue'.

I'm guessing it's useful in many, if not all, conditions.
