I was thinking about these threads and characteristics defining us.

So, what do you think defines you (or at least you see as very essential characteristics) ...

Me, in no particular order.

1. Compassion

2. Intelligence

3. Open-mindedness

4. A duality

5. Sensitivity

6. Intuition

7. Stillness/calmness

8. Analytical

  • Going to post before I veer to far into negatives, so I'll go for:

    Honest
    Loyal
    Passionate
    Enigmatic
    Thoughtful
    Hardworking
    Intense
    Aloof

I think these would have been fairly similar in my 20s although I think I might throw in adventurous for my younger days as I used to say 'I'll try anything twice'.

  • Everything of the above except the first part of 7. People find me too serious and I do not get slapstick type jokes or how to play, either as a child or with children as an adult.

  • Thank you for these responses.

I think that my answers would have been very different in my 20s.

Maturity for me has been beneficial with regard to self-insight, along with my autism diagnosis.

I wonder if other members feel the same re their younger self Thinking

  • 1 I'm honest

    2 I'm caring

    3 I'm loyal

    4 I'm gentle

    5 I'm friendly

6 I value my friends very highly (when I've got any)

7 I've got high moral standards

    8 I'm patient

    9 I enjoy a challenge

    10 I'm kind

11 I accept other people just the way they are

I've already gone 1 over so I'd better stop there.

  • Goodness Debbie. As much as I enjoy many of the forum discussions you create, the question you've posed is giving my brain quite the workout. Admittedly, this may not be a bad thing, as I suppose it helps to reassure me that I do still have a reasonably functioning brain. Wink

Off the top of my head:

    1. Humourous (Sometimes dark, risqué, or completely nonsensical and absurd)

    2. Creative

    3. Intelligent (although not academically)

    4. Modest (I seldom sing my own praises)

    5. Reasonable (I try to be)

    Okay, now I'm really struggling.

  • Thanks.

Good set of qualities and I'm sure you have others that people who know you would choose.

In fact, when I did CBT I was asked to talk to people close to me to get their perceptions of me, and they were very different from my perceptions of myself.

I was very taken aback by that.

I love the C S Lewis quote you have in your profile, by-the-way.

  • Oooh this is a tough one for me.

I find it hard to see my (qualities). After a LOT of thinking this over these are mine.

    Also in no particular order.

    1) Creative.

    2) Fun.

    3) Interesting. (Maybe)?

    4) Kind.

    5) Weird but wonderful. Smile
