Do you look younger than your age?
Could this be autism related?
An autistic friend mentioned this to me the other day and then it was commented on in a thread here today.
I do look younger than my age and so does my friend - maybe by as much as a decade (on a good day).
I am 24 but look about 14/15. Still get ID'd for buying alcohol. Even get ID'd for getting blood tests done when I'm alone as they think I'm under age of 16!
yes this is me - second guessing myself as to what I really think feel, see etc. I throw the i ching alot at those times to get a "picture". It helps but I can be over dependent on it.
The most common assumption people make upon meeting me is that I'm an undergraduate student. I'm 36. I also occasionally get mistaken for a child, usually when wearing sportswear. I'm not complaining too much; sometimes it means bus drivers charging me the cheaper child price rather than the adult fare when I ask for a single.
Very lucky! I hope I still look younger when I'm in my 40's.
Very much so. I'm 27 and still have to use ID to buy alcohol and I hear more often than not that I don't look in my twenties and I've had a policeman ask me why I wasn't in school lol.
Yes I do I’m 32 and I still get asked for id
yes generally by 10 years, but recent stress has narrowed the gap. It may expand again as thing settle for me.
I'm frequently asked why I'm not in school but then I am only 17, just...
I'll be interested to see whether I still look about 13 in 10 years time.
You lucky fella!
Yes. I'm 41. I was asked for ID in Sainsbury's last year.
Yep, and I had a good friend who always looked about a decade younger. I always marvel at how likeable and normal he seemed despite being considered disabled. He just sounded kind of tired and overexerted to me.
I've considered this could be a genetic thing as all the females in my family look a lot younger than they actually are.
I was around 24 years old and got reported for not being in school and it wasn't even a school I used to go in, so I feel sorry for the poor kid in that school who got the blame!
The funny one I heard was a Chinese lady I used to know who needed to buy a bottle of wine for a recepe she was following and she got asked to prove her age to buy the wine. I thought it was so funny when she told me she was telling me off down the phone. She was 29 at the time. Not been in touch wirh her the last decade or so as I lost her number as my brothers ex took (Stole) my phone to sell it on.
I guess.
But so did my mum, so maybe it's genetic...
Yes this is something I relate with and I find myself thinking about regularly. I look at pictures of myself from when I was a teen and facially I look the exact same now and I'm nearly 27! The only difference with me is I'm taller now but in the shops if I buy smokes or alcohol (for others not myself) I always get asked for ID without fail. It's nice in a way, like a constant compliment, but my still looking young does mean family fuss over me and never take me seriously as an adult.
Looking at this thread it looks like it might very well be an autistic thing. Very interesting.
I'm 40 and everyone's shocked. They think I'm anywhere from 18-25
It's interesting how we're all different but pretty much the same in a way.
Maybe it is because we don't like change so our bodies don't allow us to look too much older?
Thank you everyone for your replies.
Very interesting - there does seem to be a trend in these replies
Yes I've been told that I look about 14 rather than nearly 25. A lot of people have said this and I always get asked for ID in the shops.
I think it is a part of autism. We seem to be ever youthful I love it though. It's like the biggest compliment ever still looking so young lol.
I would say yes. Despite being 26 I'm often told I look like I should still be at school and I'm always asked for ID when I pick up smokes or alcohol. I like it because I guess I don't look old but I do get treated like a kid a lot which is less cool.
I think this must be an autism thing as we all seem to have this with looking younger than we are
