New series starting Tuesday night on BBC2 at 9pm. 5 parts and hosted by Chris Packham.
Ausomely Autistic said:Firstly, Chris Packham is not immersed in our autistic community enough in order to reliably represent us.
As you are fond of pointing out, autistic people are very diverse. Nobody can represent everyone.
At least Chris is raising awareness and trying to educate the wider population. I like the man.
I thought I would recreate discussion on this programme as it has been replayed tonight (and also aired yesterday).
The individual films of each autistic participant are great however there are few issues with the programme in general and Chris Packham:
They’ve been repeating this the last two nights. I saw the first episode the first time it was aired, not long before I was diagnosed.
I feel quite sad watching it, because it reminds me of how many layers I’ve developed over the course of my life to cope. At the same time seeing the young people on the programme, I want to tell them and their families that things can get much better for them.
Thanks for the heads up. Amazing to think there might be a programme for people with brains like me! Mind you I find him quite annoying, but I also find and and dec annoying, LOL! Will give it a go.
Yes, it did.
I do remember being able to see for the 1st time.
I'd love to do that Roy.
I suggested it to my husband as we have tons of flowers in the garden but I don't think he was keen.
Also, neither of us like honey.
We do however love bees.
You are doing so much for the environment there.
Well done
I prefer animals to people too but forum members are honorary (non human) animals.
I think I prefer animals to people, your world must have gone into clear Technicolor when you got your glasses. I’ve got two bee hives, There’s apparently about 60,000 bees in each hive, I haven’t ever counted them!
I agree.
I enjoyed it but found the poetic bits rather heavy going.
Superb writer though.
I read Fingers in the Sparkle Jar
So did I, I really enjoyed it particularly the parts where he wrote about himself in third person. What did you think of the book?
Indeed
I can't stand people who harm animals and get some kind of sick satisfaction out of it. The way someone treats animals says so much about them as a person to be honest.
I used to collect for charity at a table that was set up in Waterlooville and sometimes Petersfield.
Respect for Animals and other animal anti-cruelty organisations.
I had a chap once right in my face telling me how he sends his dogs down badger (I think it was badger) holes to hunt out the babies.
Vermin, he said.
He was vermin and it was all I could do not to hit him.
It took ages for him to go because he was clearly enjoying telling me about it.
Quite distressing really but most people were kind and signed petitions and donated.
He suffers horribly at his home for his love of animals.
This is the sort of thing people do who kill animals for fun and think of it as their right because they live in the countryside:

Thanks for the clip, really looking forward to the first episode
thanks Roy, just watched it, looks like it should be good
Just watched that.
Love him
Thanks Roy.
I read Fingers in the Sparkle Jar and saw Chris P live in Southampton a few years ago talking about the book and his autism.
He grew up in a working class family in Southampton whilst I was growing up in a working class family in Portsmouth (the two cities are closely aligned).
He was fascinated by everything living, I was fascinated by insects.
Decades later I discovered that I was so short-sighted I would have been born with very poor eyesight.
I didn't get my 1st glasses until 10.
Now I realise that my fascination with insects is because they were the only living creatures I could see properly.
Promo clip.

I’ve had a little read into it, four people all with different levels of need show how different each person can be and still be classed as autistic. There are only two episodes, I counted the repeats as well, apologies for that.
I've got it set to record and I'm really looing forward to it, I hope it is a good portrayal of the spectrum, I'm a Chris Packham fan so I have high hopes!
