ASD diagnosis (reactions from those around you)

Parents are often the most resistant to accepting. Partly because it means that they have to acknowledge that their offspring has a long-term problem that they can do nothing about, and partly out of a misplaced sense of guilt.

Very wise advice

How long ago was your diagnosis?

The truth. I mostly saw it as insurance. I’d had problems before where some minor, at least seeming minor to me at the time, social gaff got turned into a major incident.

I wanted a piece of paper to wave at people to make them take a step back and consider things from my point of view before going nuclear.

but now I find myself so socially isolated and desperate I’m starting to try to leverage it for other things … but I’m not sure there’s much scope for it given the services out there.

My Mother keeps saying 'What's that disease/Illness you have?' She is 83 and doesn't really understand it so I try to take it with a pinch of salt.

Oh really? what did you say to that?

My farther was on the lines of ‘so what?’ ‘What does this do for you?’ ‘How does this actually help you?’

Apparently many (most?) of my friends are very much on the spectrum and I'm one of the 'last of us' to work it out. LOL
