Superpowers!

I was wondering if we have superpowers that 'normal people' don't have. This is not a serious and philosophical post, just a bit light hearted.

I reckon mine is that I see through people, not physically, but I always see the true nature of people. I can't count the number of times people have said to me 'I really like Sally/ Jane/ Mike/ Bob, they're a really nice person.' But I don't generally see the nice side of them, I always see their worst traits. They can't fool me.

Of course sometimes Sally/ Jane/ Mike/ Bob does turn out to be a really nice person, so I see their best traits.

People can't fool me with their surface appearance of being nice, I only see their genuine niceness. This sense is disconcerting but I've decided it's very helpful to me in life.

I've also just thought that my 'early warning system' is a superpower. I can spot a potential problem and find a solution before anyone else has even perceived a problem. Annoying but useful.

EDIT 1: I just remembered another. I can chill a room instantly. Many times someone has said something to upset or anger me, 'something' happens to me(a bit like a minor shockwave) and I notice the room go cold. Everyone else notices too and stares at me. I can't control this, it just happens when I'm angry or shocked. The temperature drops and everyone pauses for a moment. It's a bit of an 'Elsa from Frozen' type of power. I should learn to control it.

EDIT 2: Also remembered a weird thing. When I'm typing, which I always am, often I type a word e.g. elephant, someone on TV says the same word at exactly the same time. My writing is nothing to do with what is on TV. This happens so much, it's strange. Not really a superpower but noticeable.

Does anyone else think they have superpowers and what are they?

  • wow, that's interesting

  • Do you wear glasses?   Some of the time?

  • i have a real oddity in that I have the ability to stop the blood flowing to my arms when cut ---- i dont do it consciously, it scared the be-Jesus out of a surgeon during an operation on my hand. It was him who discovered it.

No, I am not willing to test it out Slight smile

I can work and live in colder places than most people I know/work with and still can use my hands in freezing water for 30 minutes extra for example when others give up. This may be related to the blood/circulation thing above. This has been really advantageous as I was able to secure a rope under water when others failed.

  • I didn’t want to mention this before, but now it’s been bought up....I can actually fly and leap over tall buildings! Sweat smile

    • Out of all the traditional superpowers, the only one that I'd like would be the power to teleport wherever I wanted - like "Jumper".
    • Every other superpower has too many negatives attached to them - super strength is not able to be applied on an area the size of hands - you'd crush things.    Flying - at anything over 60mph you get wind-chilled and would form ice on your extremities - and you'd need a sat-nav built in.
  • I've been thinking about superpowers a lot recently. When I was 6 I believed I had superpowers, it was only way I could make sense of why I seemed different. As a teenager I waited for superpowers to manifest, the whole triggered by puberty thing. When it didn't happen I tried practising mind reading and then telekinesis. I'm sure I don't have to say that I failed at those. I'm still looking for my superpowers, wondering sometimes if the way I see things IS my superpower.

  • No we don't have any superpowers. I think its more that we have certain aspects to us that everyone does but  where as its normal to be at say 10% in something we are 100000000%, while at the same time maybe 1% in something else,  so for example everyone can focus but if we focus on something that interests us we can sit there for days doing just that and nothing else.

  • I think it must be a micro-expression of "Do you know how stupid you sound?" that I don't know I'm doing.

I've never had anyone recommended to me - but I'm a pretty good judge of inherent 'niceness'.

  • Sounds good! I can see the bigger picture but not always the details.

  • Are you alright, Desmond? I can't see the connection between my post and your reply.

  • Oh yes, I get that! So that's what it is. I always wondered. People always show their worst sides to me, it must be the mirror effect or something. It is very rare that someone who is recommended to me as a nice person, actually turns out to be a nice person!

    Interesting eh, Watson? Rofl

  • I'm starting to believe that my uncle and aunt-in-law are taking sides - in favour of my brother. Ever since he returned after his graduation, nine months ago, he has been their poster boy.

I'm facing another crisis. There was some of our lands in my Dad's name. He was killed in the Troubles in 1989, therefore a grant of probate has to be issued for him. I feel that I'm here forever; just like the demotivational plaque Mr Burns gave to Homer.

  • I see through people, not physically, but I always see the true nature of people.

I do that - Unfortunately, my nice-chap personality acts like a terrible mirror to people - so when they are in full BS-ing A-hole mode, they glimpse their own reflection in my face and you can see them recoil in horror when they see themselves as they really are..   Things go downhill pretty quickly after that.  Smiley

  • I think that I can quickly see the bigger picture in projects I am involved with and all the details  required to get it realised
