my therapist has suggested i try doing this. so far, i haven't, as i've never felt any interest in sorting or arranging things in order. however, she suggests it is a calming practice.. i'd like to no if anyone does this to relieve anxiety, emotions, etc.. and what do you arrange? i guess i could arrange maybe all my tools, which are scattered here and there, but that's always seemed like work. there are my paint brushes, but that's kind of pointless. but i have a number of brushes, and some are nice. i may try that.
the only other calming thing i do is lying on the floor and just lie there. sometimes i listen to lectures; but that's sort of work. i would try books, but most books don't interest me. and how many things do you need to arrange? i'd imagine the more the better. my therapist suggested papers, but that just seems frustrating.
Yes. I do this. I like to sort through my collection of marbles. The look & feel good too.
I find it very relaxing.
Yes I did this as a child and didn't even realise the significance of it. I used to order the countries of the world say by population so I'd do a top 50 list. Then I'd do a list of the top 50 countries with the most land mass.
Have you tried different kinds of books? I used to only read non fiction but now I've made the jump to fiction and it's been very enjoyable.
yep its in my profile
I have not been diagnosed professionally but yes, I do believe I am. I never really fit in and I could never figure out why. Social interactions are a real minefield for me. I have also struggled with social anxiety all my life, and I always used to put that down to being shy because I was bullied for my weight as a kid. Didn't mean to write an essay.
Have you been diagnosed?
I'd agree - it's very satisfying to clean and get things in order. :)
I am new to here, yes. Thank you!
are u autistic ?
i think you are new so welcome if u are !
Interesting that your therapist suggested you that. I've never put the two and two together but thinking back now, I used love to rearrange my bedroom as a kid, and I still do that with my home office. There is something calming abour reorganising it.
I also do that a lot with my kitchen cupboards.
I arrange my desk. Everything has to be in a specific order. It relieves anxiety as I don’t like seeing things cluttered
I love arranging!
I mostly arrange my pantry. I do my clothes sometimes. Bookshelves. Have a sort and chuck out.
Most things i do spontaneously, but some feel like a chore until i start.

It's what Hornby shunting yards and Matchbox garages were invented for
