I've noticed there a lot of posts on this forum about making friends and finding others who share an interest, so I thought I'd start a thread where people could talk about the stuff that really interests them and maybe connect with others who feel the same about that topic. I hope that's okay, and I'm sorry if a thread like this already exists and I missed it.

I know I have several interests which I get VERY excited about and would love to find others to geek out with on - as it can feel really lonely to not have people who share the same passion or get excited about the same things. But I also love listening to people talk about things that they're really passionate about too, so I would genuinely love to hear about everyone special interests too.

I find it really hard to make friends and am always cautious about talking about the things that really interest me, after years of being told that I'm weird/creepy/boring for getting obsessed with stuff that I like. But that's just me, and if I get passionate about something then I can't help but  focus on it. And that makes sense to me. Why wouldn't someone focus on something that makes them happy?

    pretty good -  i would do some more art lessons from an experienced painter to get the feedback/skills from the best people then do professional portrait painting --- ( online if need be from photos as a special gift ).

  • Hi! My special interest for the last couple of years has been the group that I run locally for autistic women. I’ve made a number of good friends through this group which is fantastic. I like the interaction between group members online. We’re not meeting face to face at present c/o Covid but we were previously and will do again afterwards. I’ve been running group video chats since the spring so that group members can all still chat together. There’s always plenty to keep me occupied with this group. From instigating posts for discussion; vetoing membership requests; signposting NT parents who request to join to more appropriate services; liaising with other service providers about services that may be beneficial to my group members and so on and so forth. I do periodically have mini special interests that last for a short time but the group is definitely my main one for the moment :-)

    I have heard some seriously good things about Cyberpunk 2077, but not played it. Does it live up to the hype? I don't seem to have the dexterity to play a lot of video games, but I think the design of so many of them are beautiful. My husband played Horizon Zero Dawn a while back and the story line was amazing. Also think a lot of games now have better music than some films.

    Love your drawings - that picture you did on the black paper was really atmospheric. Was that done with chalks? I love drawing too, I'm not very good at portraits though. I've just finished watching Portrait Artist Of The Year, so I'm thinking about having another go at them though. What's your favourite medium to work in?

  • Don't know if it counts as a special interest, but I'm really addicted to Cyberpunk 2077 at the minute.  Also The Sims 4.  I guess gaming in general is kinda my thing, always done it but never really thought of it as a special interest.

    Oh, I wish I could bake but I've never got the hang of it. I love watching the Great British Bake Off and know all the theory, but can't seem to successfully put it in practice.

    I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan too. My favourite books in the series are Philosophers Stone, Prisoner of Azkaban and Half Blood Prince, though I love the characters and all the world building in all the books. How about you, do you have a favourite? Have you been to the Pottermore website and been sorted?
