My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and is awaiting a diagnosis for ASD, initially I had a meeting with the school who did advise they would put some things in place like SALT, they have still not implemented anything, I think because he is due to start secondary school in September they can't be bothered.
I have the forms to complete an EHCP but I really don't understand what help that would provide and if I should actually go down that road or not so any advice or personal experiences would be a great help.
Also I am aware that u can specify a school but I really don't know what I should be looking for.
Hi NAS36005,
In addition to the information AngelDust posted, you can find more about EHC Plans on our information page here - http://www.autism.org.uk/about/in-education/extra-help-in-school/england/ehc-plans.aspx - where you can find out what a typical EHCP contains, how to draft it and so on.
You may also want to talk to the Education Rights Service - http://www.autism.org.uk/services/helplines/education-rights.aspx - which can provide confidential advice on your rights relating to your child's education, including EHCPs, and help you explore your schooling options.
If you would like to talk to someone directly, please call the NAS Helpline on 0808 800 4104 (open 10am-4pm Mon-Thurs, 9am-3pm Fri).
Hope this is of some help,
