Hello all- I'm new to here. My five year old begins formal assessment next month after along wait. Senco and myself both believe she is on the spectrum. She is in year R. This week she has been particularly sensitive to noise. Lots of night waking. Also unable to concentrate- misforming letters she had already secured and not reading as well as she can usually. Her brain seems a bit scrambled.
I feel constantly anxious about her and very much alone on this journey- which is why I'm here. I'd love to hear from parents in the same boat.
Many thanks.
Hi NAS35112,
I thought you might be interested in a couple of pages here on the NAS site, particularly if your daughter is indeed diagnosed with ASD.
The 'After Diagnosis' page provides information about various aspects of raising a child on the spectrum, including education, social care, financial assistance and how to talk to your child about their diagnosis, among much else, and can be found here - http://www.autism.org.uk/about/diagnosis/children/recently-diagnosed.aspx
You might also want to look at the Early Bird program which is aimed at parents of young children - http://www.autism.org.uk/services/community/family-support/earlybird.aspx
And if you want to find other parents to talk to, there are various support groups that you can search for in the Autism Services Directory - http://www.autism.org.uk/directory.aspx
Hope this is of some use,
