Professional help for children with autism and challenging behaviour - enquiry.

Hi, I'd like to introduce myself very briefly. I am fully qualified SEN teacher with Masters Degree in Autism (children). I have 20 years of experience in the Special Education field. My work with children and their parents is more than just a job. It's my passion and the internal need for helping people and sharing my knowledge and experience. I work full time as a teacher in a specialist school for children diagnosed with autism.

I am going to do my PhD in Educational Psychology next year, but before I'd like to check and get to know the parents' opinion if private tuition for children with autism and what I call it 'Time-off' for the parents is in a high demand in Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Hertfordshire areas? I was going to focus on that side of profession where I could offer:

Professional Educational Support for children, Behavioural strategies for those parents who struggle with their children's challenging behaviour, Sensory Integration, Social Skill Development, Help and support for the families (parents and siblings). And what is paramount in my opinion; time for the parents where they can leave their child at home with someone who can provide professional help. I don't know if there is any interest in services I'd like to offer? If only I could get your thoughts and opinion it would help me to decide if it's worth trying?

Many thanks for your time and opinions.

Parents
  • Hello may I welcome you to our place.

I commented on another thread about the seeming  lack of any professional people on here.

I have always thought to understand the true thoughts and minds of anyone with autism you need to listen to us where we are able to actually talk and express,

I applaud your ideas, I applaud you are upfront and say exactly what it is you hope to offer.

I am not needing your specific services but I hope by you reading some of the threads on here you can gain knowledge and a true understanding of how we feel,

I am not a spokesman for all, I speak for myself, but we are all autistic and we are all unique.

You will be inundated i feel, every day we hear the struggles of parents, it hurts to read such desperation, we try to give understanding, we try to act as interpreters,go between, we are not trained or experienced in autism, it is our lives, our history, just us trying to be us.

Anyway I hope your experience here is a warm and friendly one. We are complex.

() aspie hug btw. Freely given by me to you.

  • Thank you very much for your warm welcome. Hoping to hear the opinions and thoughts from people who need support and help I can offer. I am very enthusiastic when it comes to new challenges. Studying autism for many years helped me to realise how much of a professional help is needed in autistic society. And these are the Parents who are the eyes and voices of their children so they know the best what their loved ones need. Hope to hear from you all.
