Not dead, simply gone, just like that. How would suburban pets fare without people to feed them? How would the forests, the oceans and the wildlife react if there was suddenly an end to all the hunting, fishing and farming? After being on the receiving end of humanity for millennia, nature would finally be given a chance to take the world back. But how would it work? How long would the skyscrapers and houses last if they were abandoned? Aftermath: Population Zero - The World without HumansThis is a fascinating documentary. It's quite long, but extremely interesting. What would happen if, tomorrow, every single person on Earth simply disappeared? “Aftermath” is the astounding story of a world that humans will never see. The two-hour special examines the impact of human beings on this planet by proposing what the Earth might be like without people.
The pets left behind after the Chernobyl disaster had a varied fate. Some died, unable to fend for themselves or were killed but other animals. Some learnt how to survive and thrived. I think it fully depends on the animal in question and whether they're locked indoors or not.
no problem,,,,, they look really beautiful horses
Thanks! I was amazed when I saw a video clip of all these horses galloping around the ruined buildings!
Thank you. I am so tired of being called evil for having a different perspective to someone else. The world today needs to learn to discuss things civilly again, instead of blocking each other over politics or whatever.
Aww, I don't take offence at all. You have absolutely no need to apologise to me whatsoever. I enjoy when people disagree with me or see things differently than me. It gives me a different perspective on my own thoughts, likes and opinions and mental habits. Sometimes, I even learn something new about myself. I've never blocked anyone apart form family members who have been psychologically abusive (or spammers).
wildlife always prevails where there are no humans
"In a different program, 30 of the horses were released into the Chernobyl zone in 1998, replacing an extinct horse native to the region, the Tarpan."
"Vyshnevsky sees one potential candidate in the European bison" to be introduced into the same park!

That is interesting about the DNA! Amazing!
hahahaha yes!
the alien archaeologists in the future would discover a layer of plastic in the soil record,, that will be us!
There's a lot of studies into radiation uptake going on there - they've spotted that DNA contains lots of redundant error correction built in so animals can live in places that were considered uninhabitable amounts of radiation.
Chernobyl has been a great learning opportunity. .
Apparently seeing things in different ways is not allowed these days though, both online and offline
Apparently there is a wildlife sanctuary at Chernobyl now, full of those Przwaleski horses. No idea how to spell that. I don't know if the horses arrived by themselves or zoologists put them there, but they are thriving and scientists are studying them. There is a documentary about it.
Yes it would. It would be interesting to see if dinosaurs would return but of course we wouldn't be here to see it!
I'm apologising because you liked the documentary so much and I came along and said it was boring. Many people take offence when I say things like that and block me/ accuse me of being snooty or whatever. So I'm pre-empting you.
Chernobyl (Pripyat) is much worse than it should be - the buildings have been vandalised, doors broken, windows smashed, fires set etc. It would be in much better condition today but weather penetration and ongoing looting and trashing makes it look worse.
no one cant predict which animals/plants would survive and which would die as the ecology would shift between several solutions before arriving at a final settled state. The chicken is a real candidate for world dominance/survival because we have spread them so widely. They are really good at what they do .
they, are relatives of the dinosaur after all
yes the earth would recover within 20 years and precede on without us ,,,, maybe the dinosaurs would return after 20 million years - i speak as an ecologist
I don't buy it - there's sooooo much anti-nuclear BS that facts are irrelevant to most people - all they know is 'nuclear = bad' What is this gas? How do the explosions actually happen? Reactors fail safe these days - all the old Chernobyl types were decommissioned decades ago. I'm not believing the failure modes.
Melt-downs are not really that dangerous to the outside world - the reactor is trashed and the containment is filled with radioactive glass - but so what? There's no-one to go and mess with it and in a few thousand years, the problem decays itself away to nothing.
Yeah, they said that the min danger came from a global release of toxic radioactive gas. The explosions were just an added bonus!
It depends on a lot of factors - how decayed they are, packing density etc. but to get to a criticality, it doesn't necessarily mean explosion - more of a slow melt down - which will melt through to the lower containment where it meets the sand and turns to glass. Nuclear explosion is very, very unlikely - although a fire is probable
The water pools are mainly for shielding - it's a good neutron absorber.
