Urgent - need a criminal specialist solicitor

Please help. I can't get through on the N.A.S help line.

My son has ended up in prison.

The forensic psychiatric report had serious mistakes in.

We are told to get a solicitor but don't trust them.

My son had bad representation.

Diagnosed with ASD has learning difficulties. Socially isolated.

He was manipulated by teens for money e.t.c

Had false malicious allegations made against him prior.

No defense in case on unknown allegations that was not known fully until after the case!!!!

Was in breach of an order he didn't understand.

We have a lot of things needed looking into this case where my son was told to plead guilty to get a Psychiatric report.

It's all mess.

  • Sorry, I realise you said you'd tried the NAS helpline. Hope you managed t get through eventually.

You may find all the info available is in the directory

    http://www.autism.org.uk/directory/browse/cid=4~aid=1.aspx

and as Graham says, list of law centres. Yes, NAS should do more.  Oh, I know... RADAR is now:

    https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/

However they don't seem to take on many cases themselves now, only discrimination and hate crime. Their directory provides further helplines, which I hope don't send you around in circles:

  • I'm only responding because no one else has, not because I have any knowledge or experience.  I hope the moderators have some ideas. Have you tried the NAS helpline on 0808 800 4104, Monday-Thursday 10am - 4pm, Friday 9am - 3pm ?  I also see the background to your son's case here - it sounds like he has been targeted by a malicious individual.

The legal aid is becoming rare. It's estimated there will be no funding for any in 10 years time......

This of course is a problem and results in injustices. If you write to your MP about the case, they may be able to act directly and at least they're then aware of the problem. So you mean you have tried a (overworked, probably not specialist) Law Centre?

Solicitors want my son to write to them before taking on a case, but won't give advice to say they can or not do the case.

Well, could you write something (for your son to sign) to send to a few firms, and also ask if they could work pro bono? I see you want to get someone trustworthy after what's happened so far. If your son is on remand, he must have important legal rights.

We need an expert solicitor to help with taking a doctor to court for writing a report with serious mistakes to get this amended at a hearing.

Have you looked at the NAS directory linked above?

I'm also wondering if there are other avenues: do you have documentation from other professionals that contradicts the forensic psychiatrist? If not could you get some? If it really needs taking the psychiatrist to court (I know nothing, but that sounds very difficult), then have you considered the General Medical Council instead?

    I need free advice please.

Are you hoping to find that here? Maybe someone here has found a good autism-friendly law firm already.

  • Roughly where do you live? Have you tried a local law centre? So the case concluded and there was a court order?

I don't personally know of a specialist solicitor, but these are the relevant NAS pages:
