Note by WebPM: I have split this off from the photography thread partly to make this discussion more accessible to others who have questions, and partly to keep the other thread on topic.)
...Finally, this is to WebPM. I may Post again, though. But after 3, 4 attempts to find WebPMs Post, I could not, and then I recall a thing said by MrRobert123, in that Replies Change depending upon how a Thread is entered, and so I clicked upon the Thread TITLE, instead of any reply (from the HOME Screen... and now I finally see your Reply, Mr.WebPM.
(I wanted to keep this Thread about Pictures, but then that happens, and so I Post it here, as it happened, rather than my previous Thread. Excuse Me.)
EDIT - From DC: This Post now does not entirely make sense, when used as a Starting Post or as an Introduction. To anyone reading, Please ignore the sentence here which says that this Thread is "about pictures", for THIS Thread is not about pictures at all..!! Most of all, Please see the first *Real* Post from myself, below. I myself can only wait to see what other people (including NAS) do regarding this Thread...
We have continued to work with our suppliers on this issue. On Wednesday night, 26 September, we'll be updating this site with the latest version of the forum software, along with a brand refresh. I am hopeful that this will both resolve the issue of messages that are not shown in some thread views, and make it easier to spot the latest messages in a thread.
As ever, your feedback after the update is welcome.
Yes, I agree that there are two things going on - three, if you count the fact that linking to a message can result in other messages appearing in a different order (because the system then prioritises showing the linked message's parent and children, which means re-ordering any siblings to get them out of the way).
The feedback is that the whole thing has been improved, so, hopefully, both your bullets will be resolved, and quite possibly even the "empty thread" business that you mentioned last. However, the interactions between these things are why I can't really be certain at least until we get it onto a test system, and more probably until we are using it live in real conversations here.
Regards

Cool & thanks for advance notice. I think part of the confusion is that there are two main things going on: some replies are hidden (by Load Next/Previous); and secondly some replies are filtered out, excluded altogether, when the URL is for a particular comment. If those systems were combined, so that you could access all the replies with Load Next/Previous, it would be less confusing.
As another datum, I've noticed that in the case where you look at the main thread URL and none of the comments are listed at all, the interactive features of the site (eg popups when hovering over the user name, notification icons) also aren't working. For instance:
https://community.autism.org.uk/f/adults-on-the-autistic-spectrum/13096/adhd-autism-depression-and-anxiety
Maybe the scripts aren't loaded. When you click on one of the highlighted replies, however, those features start working.
I have today been informed about an update to the forum software that is designed to address some of these issues, in particular, some of the intended enhancements are:
I'm hoping that the changes will also address the specific issue of some messages not being listed in the thread at all, i.e. the main topic of this particular thread. I don't think we'll be quite sure until we've all been using it for some weeks, because I don't believe that we can describe how to trigger the problem - so we can't write a test to be certain that it's cured.
We'll need to install this first on our test system, to check for any unexpected effects (not particularly likely), so it may be a week or two before we're ready to install it here. However, it will be fairly obvious when it's in place, because of the changes to the appearance of Next/Previous and latest messages mentioned above.
Hmmmm. Okay. I got that. This 'Grumpy' Post is to let you know that some of us knew what you last write already.
The disappearing messages causes a lot of confusion and misunderstanding, that is all. Put together with CopyBots and ChatBots, and they start a Thread, and even they have messages disappearing...! This trouble is Good at bad guys, but bad at good guys...
(P.S.- I guess I cannot edit my/your opening post anymore either, now - Ho ho!)
Good Luck to You as always, Mr. WebsterPM! :-)
Disambiguating Cynosure and Robert124 (and others)
I am sorry that this has not yet been resolved, but we are having to prioritise other issues (raised in other threads). We'll get this one addressed as soon as we can.
To summarise, I think we are agreed that messages don't get lost from the system entirely. However, certain links to a thread may cause messages to be displayed and sequenced in a way that (apparently unintentionally) omits certain messages altogether (irrespective of how many Previous or Next links you click). If you go back to the main link for that thread (the one on the thread title in a list of messages), you see everything, but that view may not be as useful if you wanted to start with the most recent messages.
Messages are still disappearing!!!!
S'me... Posting to re-highlight this Thread temporarily again.
Mr. Cassandro Posted an instance of a disappearing message, here:
https://community.autism.org.uk/f/miscellaneous-and-chat/12899/unable-to-edit/77104#77104
...Every now and then, I ask upon this Thread, to Mr. WebPM... how is it going, with regards to fixing this greatly vexing problem?
And so I am doing that now...again. Near the end of July, 2018.
Thank You for Possting this, Mr. Cassandro!
WebPM, please note this weirdly weird weirdness, Thanks...
(No, no... not another New Thread...?)
Can I draw WebPM's attention to more 'disappearing' posts, or more specifically examples where none of the posts show up until you click on an upvoted link? I posted this at http://community.autism.org.uk/f/miscellaneous-and-chat/12022/disappearing-messages-posts-2018-edit/74366#74366 but it might have got lost.
There are two more examples of the same thing recently, where on entering a thread you only see the summary of upvoted posts, and not the posts themselves until you click on one of those summaries:http://community.autism.org.uk/f/miscellaneous-and-chat/12697/encouraged-to-move-nearer-relatives-by-mental-health-facilitator/
http://community.autism.org.uk/f/miscellaneous-and-chat/12136/new-friend/74338#74338So it looks like it has repeated - is it something in the HTML of the comments, or the page structure?
I am now very worried that I am not getting e-mail notifications anymore!
Yes, it's been doing it at least since the middle of the afternoon. I was having the same problem yesterday evening as well. I either get a 503 error, or the little pop-up which says that the connection has been lost. It seems to be a very intermittent problem, quite often down for only a few minutes before it comes back on again.
I have not received the e-mail notification for your reply 10 minutes ago.
Yes, I tried looking half an hour ago, and was getting a 503 service unavailable or similar, the same as the weekend before last. I notice one of your posts came out twice, perhaps because your submitted it once and the server went down, and then you refreshed. (better duplicates than losing it.)
DC may be able to point us to the appropriate thread for this kind of thing.
I could not access the forum for some time this evening!
It did not work!
Anyone else had the same problem today?

I experience the same problem!
Hello Ms/Mr @WebPM
There are two more examples of the same thing recently, where on entering a thread you only see the summary of upvoted posts, and not the posts themselves until you click on one of those summaries:
http://community.autism.org.uk/f/miscellaneous-and-chat/12697/encouraged-to-move-nearer-relatives-by-mental-health-facilitator/
http://community.autism.org.uk/f/miscellaneous-and-chat/12136/new-friend/74338#74338
So it looks like it has repeated - is it something in the HTML of the comments, or the page structure?
Working now. I wondered if it might be why some other comments weren't showing.
Please try it now. This was an HTML issue, and looks like something of a one-off. However, we are working with our suppliers to try to prevent any repetition.
Cassandro said:OK, here's an odd one: http://community.autism.org.uk/f/adults-on-the-autistic-spectrum/12572/trying-to-get-support/ lists '7 replies', and at the moment none of them are showing up for me.
When you go to the thread ~ or seeming lack of it, tap or click the name of the upvoted poster's (such as your post) and the posts should appear like the with the Load Previous or Load Next tabs at various points through long threads.
If that helps any?
