Feeling very upset and fearful at the moment. I have a daughter with ASD diagnosed in June so all very new to me. Has had a few melt downs recently led to days off school as she refuses to go in. One of which was today.
just had a phone call from the school pastoral support threatening me with fines and maybr swapping my child to another school which is abducted ridiculous as change would make her ten times worse
i felt thre was no compassion for my daughter or my personal situation just threats. She also went as far to see if I wanted a referral to social care.
has anyone else had a similar situation at at my wits end last thing I need is some *** reading me the riot act
Hi Pazzy,
When your daughter was diagnosed, did your doctor ask you about special educational needs, or discuss an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)? An EHCP is like an agreement between you, your child's doctor and their school, which outlines what kind of extra assistance or care they may need and makes sure the school understands your daughter's ASD - which it sounds like they don't at the moment?
I would recommend reading the section on the NAS site about EHC plans (http://www.autism.org.uk/about/in-education/extra-help-in-school/england/ehc-plans.aspx) and in general the section on autism and education - http://www.autism.org.uk/about/in-education.aspx
If you would like to speak to someone directly then please call the NAS Helpline on 0808 800 4104 (Mon-Thurs 10am-4pm, Fri 9am-3pm). I would also recommend calling the NAS Educational Rights Service, which you can read about here - http://www.autism.org.uk/services/helplines/education-rights/contact.aspx, as one of its main purposes is helping parents of children with ASD who don't feel they're getting the support they need from their school.
Best wishes,
