Aspergers and puberty

hi

my 12 year old son is in the full swing of puberty! In the last few months he has started urinating or pooing in his room when he is angry. He knows its wrong n we only discover it once the smell starts!

anyone else experienced this? If so how did you handle it?

  • Hi ,

The following link, which takes you to a section of the National Autistic Society's website on behaviour, may be of use to you: http://www.autism.org.uk/about/behaviour.aspx.

Additionally, if you would like to have a conversation about this with one of our helpline team, please ring 0808 800 4104 (Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm, Friday 9am to 3pm), although please note that the Helpline is experiencing increasingly high demand, and you may not reach them straight away.

Please see the following link for further information:

    Best wishes,

  • I would write him an email asking why he thinks he's doing this. Use neutral and balanced language, without judgement... I suspect it's coming from anxiety not anger.

  • Hi nas24378 I had issues when young I am now 54, please try reading past posts, look to the right of this page and you should see "Related" in dark purple writing, underneath will be old posts about ,puberty, if you search using the magnifying glass icon at the top of the page, type"toilet training,it should bring up loads of different posts all different but some may be similar to your sons. You say when he gets angry? If he does it because he is angry then you need to find out what is making him angry? Is there a known trigger,is he toilet trained apart from this.

I wish I could help more but there is plenty of help here, don't give up.
