Autism and Mental Health Workshop

I'm attending another workshop today, run by my regional authority in Kent.  Autism and Mental Health will be focusing on mapping the key needs of people with autism and co-existing mental health issues, and identifying current services and whether they are fit for purpose.  We will also be hearing about a Joint Working Protocol, involving local authorities in the region, for adults with such conditions.

I'll report back...

  • Sounds interesting. Something that could do with happening in Norfolk.

  • Hi Beaky,

It was interesting.  It was great to be with peers and to share experiences, both of autism and mental health, and to find out about the Neurodevelopmental Transformation Programme and the Joint Working Protocol in Kent aimed at improving access to mental health services for autistic people, developing appropriate treatments, and addressing the lack of specialist or crisis interventions. For many, the mental health route to treatment has been negative and counter-productive, so I was glad not to feel alone in company for once! This is certainly something that needs to be rolled out on more than just a regional basis.  We need it countrywide.  World-wide!

The workshop was very reassuring. I hope the planned initiatives translate into better care in the future. In spite of the upsurge in media attention with autism, public and medical ignorance is still huge. We're still, in many ways, lonely voices shouting into the wind.

  • This is great work and we need more of it!  there is definitely a major lack in resources to support ND people and as I have stated many times before on this forum, I am sure a lot of ND people would be able to live happier and more independent lives with the right support in place.
