Hello I’ve been thinking since I got diagnosed with autism a couple of weeks ago at the age of 34. I keep wondering if it was missed though the years and diagnosed as something else when I was a child I was diagnosed with depression I’m pretty sure I wasn’t depressed. One doctor in my 20’s said I got be bipolar I’m definitely not one thing that was diagnosed probably was my OCD even then in the therapy my therapist would ask me questions such as what’s the reason behind you tapping your foot 5 times in a row what are you worried about and when I told her I just do it when nervous/excited she accused me of lying about it she didn’t even think it might have been an autistic stim?
anyone else had these types of experience.
I hope you get your answer soon when you do it’s a relief.
You've piqued my interest in your 'Very unpopular opinion of adult ASD that I'll keep to myself...'
"Considered" offensive, "potentially" offensive, well that could be pretty much everything couldn't it? I am respectful; I'm not calling anyone a **** directly, I'm using it in conversation, just like millions of people do every day. It's the intent that makes it offensive, & I didn't intend for anyone to be offended, that's on them.
What about all the other swear words on this forum? Are you going to remove them too?! Because you'll be here for ages.
I was diagnosed with depression in my 20s, and saw a psychologist for it but didn't get that much it of it so stopped going. Always felt that diagnosis didn't really feel right with me but it is what it is.
I'm 37 now. There are a lot of things over the years and in school that I think would have been picked up on these days compared to when I was a kid.
The Community is designed to be a welcoming and safe place so please be respectful of others and do not use language that may be considered offensive. All potentially offensive words have been removed from these posts.
Kerri-Mod
its ok Simon u're ok
Yeah I think I put f## in a post I regret it.
You control what goes on in your head, not me. I'm not going to stop using a word just because people find it offensive. I find tomato ketchup offensive, it's still everywhere!
i form the word in my head with u are saying it
I do use it in the general public, @aidie. They use it too! I asterisk it out, so I don't see the issue?
good idea
I would go further and say even the word you mentioned is unnecessary.
There are always words you can use which are inoffensive or ways of rewording things or simply put a load of symbols so we can all imagine what isn't said. #*%! for example.
please stop using ****. its offensive. u're the first person in 7 years to regularily use it on this forumn its just not necessary. use "****" instead. If you get in the habit of using it here, u will use it out in the general public. Its one word I know causes much offense among men and women and would easily start a fight anywhere.
sorry.
Hello We we’re born too early anymone born before 1990’s had no chance of being diagnosed with autism because they didn’t know enough about it then.
I wrote out all my experiences in a long list. All bad ones. I had to try & rationalise the diagnosis to myself, & that I wasn't a ****, as all these experiences have taught me. Turns out, once it's "in" that you are, it's very difficult to get rid of.
I have a very unpopular opinion of adult ASD that I'll keep to myself. But, if they don't get you in the first 8 years of life, may as well forget it.
Yeah just got to move on it’s hard not to think of what could have been.
I have had ocd since childhood. Repetition was part and parcel of every day life. In my days there was no asd services so my family just thought I was weid and would taunt and tease me. It was not until I went for a diagnosis at age 43 did it show I had asperger's. Knowing hasn't changed who I am but I have thought if only I knew earlier but I must look to the future as without a time machine we are only pursuing another outcome with the if and buts
