So the GP a while back told me 'theres nothing for autistic adults in the area'. Their a good doctor and I trust her, she seemed to really try.
She put me in touch with this woman who's meant to be able to help, I thought with anxiety. Anyway, shes text me at the beginning of all if this saying shes there if I need anything.
Whenever I text her her response is I'm not trained in that please see your gp they can prescribe anti depressants! I dont want that. Shes said she knows nothing about asd.
I dont know what shes meant to help with if I'm honest, if I ask via text I'll sound rude I'm sure
Try the head office of the NHS trust in the county you live in ,dorset has one called pdcaas and my doctor did not know about them so worth a try , medication is only good for anxiety ,I tried them and they were great first day then just went down hill ,glad I took myself off them but I don't recommend that to anyone who is taking them ,the come down is yukky
It's not the first time either. I'm just stumbling through life in the dark it seems
Hi Mouse,Sorry you're having trouble getting support in your area. One option you could try is looking at the services directory here on the site - https://www.autism.org.uk/services/autism-services-directory.aspx - in case there are options that your GP might have missed that could help. If there's nothing available that would help I would recommend making another appointment with the GP and explaining that the person they referred you to hasn't been able to help with your anxiety and ask for an alternative therapist, counsellor or treatment. If you want to talk things over with someone our helpline is still available, with the details here - https://www.autism.org.uk/get-involved/about-us/contact-us.aspx Best wishes,Ross - mod
That must be so frustrating, maddening even. It's awful when your doctor sends you to see someone and they then tell you to go back to your doctor. You end up thinking what's going on??
