Isolation

Hi, my name is Amy and I am 25 years old. I live in the Wirral with my parents, brother and our 7 year old cat named Fluffy. It has been a while since I have been on this community, so I thought I would pop back and try it out again.

For a while now I have felt isolated at home. Don’t get me wrong, I love being comfortable and safe at home especially with all the things happening in the news etc. But I feel that because I don’t go out or have any friends who live close to me/in the same country, I am isolating myself. I don’t like to go out at night because it gets me all panicked same with new places I haven’t been before. But I would like to go out and meet people who will understand me.

I’m not working at the moment, as the last time I had a job I had a melt down and had to quit. I really would LOVE to work with animals but have no qualifications and I have no money to pay for animal courses for college.
I just feel really stuck, confused and sometimes depressed on what to do next.

I don’t drive so I rely on public transport, and that’s what’s stopped be from going to an autism group because I couldn’t get there among other reasons. Does anyone have any ideas or can help me?

Amy x

  • No problem - there's no pressure to reply/reply quickly Slight smile That sounds great - hope the volunteering goes well x

  • Your reply made me smile, I am sorry I am only getting round to replying now I haven’t been on the site in a while. As I mentioned in above reply’s mentioned below...

I got in contact with someone who runs her own waggy services and she has offered to help me with knowledge and point me to some online classes that are cheap. She even said I could go round and help her (volunteer) and she will pass on as much as she can about animal care etc. So fingers crossed“

I am hoping that this women could help me with her knowledge and guidance. And with the courses online to help too. I find that I am more confident with animals than I am with people so that’s why I have come up with the idea to try pursue a career with animals.
I really hope this lockdown/virus disappears soon, as I would like to try and push myself to get out more even if it’s for a walk or something. I am always at home because I feel comfortable, and since my diagnosis that I haven’t had any help on what to do next I hope that I can try and start enjoying life soon x

How is your daughter getting on? x

  • Sorry I am just getting back to you now, I haven’t been on this site in a while. • Hello Amy,

What a good ambition to work with animals.  I agree with the other posts about volunteering, maybe at a dog groomers? As soon as we are out of lockdown there will be lots of dog groomers that will be very busy.  Maybe you could start off washing or brushing the dogs.  Maybe help out at a stables or ask to volunteer at a farm or vets? Or an animal sanctuary or charity ? AThe most important thing is that you feel happy and comfortable. Every bit of experience you get will help you to achieve your goals. Good luck with your career in caring for animals and what a wonderful choice you have decided upon.
    take care x

  • Hi Amy,

How are you getting on? My daughter is nearly 18. She would also love to work with animals but suffers greatly with communication and social interaction. We volunteer for The Cinnamon Trust  which is a dog walking/ fostering charity to help elderly people. She hopes to volunteer at a local shelter when she is 18. She doesnt have any qualifications at all. Good luck x

  • Hi, Amy. Welcome back :) I'm also 25 and I'm currently awaiting diagnosis.

If it helps, a lot of animal-related jobs don't actually ask for specific qualifications (I can see from the other comments that you have GCSEs). It's worth applying for a few jobs - you've nothing to lose by submitting an application. In the meantime, it might be worth volunteering at a local animal shelter to get some experience to add to your CV.

    Best of luck with everything.

  • I do have pictures of Fluffy but I don’t really want to post them.

If you read the sentence again I said “I would LOVE to work with animals but have no qualifications” i was talking about qualifications to do with animals.

Yes I have GCSE’s and a Childcare qualification but at the moment I just would like to look towards, working with animals x

  • Hi, fellow insomniac Amy.  It's  3am and I can't sleep.  Do you have any photos of Fluffy that you could post?

One way of dealing with isolation is joining in the discussions here.

In this post you say you have no qualifications,  but in your profile you state you have GCSE's, what are your GCSE's?  Do you consider them useless?

    Must sleep,  bye.
