I confess I upvote my own posts. I thought about it once and just did it. And now when I feel a bit low, I upvote my own posts.
I also laugh at my own jokes. I'm actually laughing at this as we speak. It's so silly. But I am asking for forgiveness. As some of you might not like me breaking the rules.
And sometimes I laugh out loud. I/our family used to have a gadget that laughed. I was made of pink plastic. And it had its own drawstring bag. To activate it you pressed the button. And it would let a loud mechanical laugh. I think about the bag every now and then. I wonder where it is. That laughter in a bag.
If this post makes you smile. I'm glad. Smiling is very good for the soul and the mind.
Oh no! That is the ultimate online faux pas! I will never forgive you for this, you've gone too far, it's just out of order. Upvoting yourself! How could you?!
Just kidding. As Ken Dodd sang happiness, happiness, is the greatest gift that I possess.
Ah, so you were buttering us all up the other day, talking about forgiveness and forgiving anyone that mentioned a negative trait on your post I shall forgive you Lagrangian largely because this post has me laughing a lot we need more humour on this forum
You can still get them, or variants of...

Years ago when I used to use a particular social media website and I used to like my own messages. Mainly because I value my own opinion and also because nobody else would would usually like what I had to say. Then one day I was in the gym and an old friend said to me " Its like giving yourself a pat on the back liking your own messages" Haha seriously like I'm bothered what he or anyone else thought. I had to read the rubbish everyone else used to put on. In the end I shut my account down and never looked back. I found it was a major cause of anxiety in my life, full of snoops and people bragging about what they have material wise.
Oddly, I just finished reading "A Field Guide to Earthlings" and at the end the author advises:
"Say 'I love myself" out loud... no-one can give us what we are not willing to give ourselves, so start with basic love and respect."
So, if you wrote a good post damn well up-vote it - same as you would if someone else wrote it!
Greetings. A little Story, here. When I Myself first came here, I did quite well... but then one day I posted a reply which was downvoted quite a bit... and in My 'panic', I voted Myself up as well. (!) That was the first and last time I ever did that, and after that I saw and learnt much about this Forum, and I from then on see it as if I 'Voted Myself Up' - purely in SELF-DEFENCE...!
If I had not done that then, I am certain that I would not still be here Posting now... Seriously...! (All of the Threads concerned are still extant, too.)
All in all, in a way, voting up oneself is supposedly not so good to do... but all in all, if no-one else does it, then, well, I Myself did it so that I did not get "Moderated"/"Deleted" at the time. I did not understand how this Forum - and the Internet and Social Media in general - worked... but I did that and I understand it a lot more, now.
Hope You enjoyed that little Story. Keep on Voting Yourself and Everyone Up as much as You like, I say... (until NAS stops it?!)
Sometimes I have not voted for how good or how bad I think my posts are
i used to be conceited but now I know I am perfect ... (Just for anyone wondering, that is a joke).
the whole thing of up or down voting is wrong. Some very useful posts receive no votes either way, some posts which are irrelevant have received up votes, and some good posts have received negative votes. And it is very easy with my gorilla sized hands to press inadvertently..
Very few posts get likes or dislikes in double figures anyway, so it is hardly a huge endorsement or othetwise anyway, the only thing it does is put a post in the top 3. With perhaps the same relevance as the pop charts for deciding how good a song is.
Just going to put this out there... maybe it's us? Maybe up/downvotes, likes, kudos etc. are an NT thing - they help feed their need to gain status within their peer group plus reinforce their sense of worth/reputation.
The reading I've been doing since getting my diagnosis suggests NAs don't do that. I've always been pretty much immune to both praise and criticism...
Them: "That was a really good presentation you did!"
Me: "I know"
Them <thinking> "What an arrogant ***!"
Them: "That was a terrible presentation!"
Me: "Oh, really? What was terrible?
Them: "Oh, you know... it was bad - it didn't make sense"
Me: "What part didn't make sense?"
Them: "Well... um... it's hard to pick a specific point..."
Me: <thinking> "This idiot knows nothing and their opinion is of no value, how can I get away?"
So, maybe we need labels on the buttons that are relevant to the way we think?
'cos also, what does 'Upvote/Downvote' even mean? It's not defined and so every one of us could think it is to be used in a different way... if we even care about them at all.
Like everything, the stock template for this forum will likely have been designed by NTs, for NTs...
I think this loops back to Lagrangian's question about "What would WE want this forum to look like?"

Greetings from Me, to Mr. Brains-From-Thunderbirds again. (I can post emojis *only* when online - whoah...) . More very good points made, there. There is an awful lot of, well, STUFF to consider... but all in all (again) I Myself vote up when I see things, when I am logged in, and because I know how. Admittedly that is not much, but it pushes up the "Points" that a User has on this Forum.
Useful Posts receive no votes, I put down to mostly those who see them either not knowing how, or are not able to vote up.
Irrelevant Posts getting Votes, may be due to as I said before, plus a User supporting that other User. (Me again at certain Persons!)
"Gorilla sized hands"... Um, well, I myself am upon a Tablet and use a Stylus, and so, well, the advice I next can give about this may or may not apply, but I say it anyway...
...PINCH the Screen to enlarge stuff... When the wrong Arrow is pressed (Up Arrow or Down Arrow) then press that same button again, paying attention to the +1, or 0, or -1, which is shown. This can take a lot of time and is fiddly to get it right. I also make similar mistakes often, and I have to close the screen or log out, then come back and check if My Vote was counted as Up or Down.
You, Sir, may know all of this already, but I take opportunity to Post that for others who might not... And, indeed, for Myself if I ever get another newer device...(!)
Stay Well, Good Sir.
The moral of the story. We all need to vote ourselves up.
Be good to yourself.
I'm been laughing to myself all through the replies. Thank you.
