But I have major communication problems and when I watch videos of people with autism speaking about their communication problems it hits home with me, a video I watched yesterday even made me realise why I always pull my phone out to play with/look at when I'm speaking in appointments etc. Never understood why I done that but now I realised it kinda helps me speak a little better.
I have no light/sound sensitivity or anything like that, only the communication problems. They say it's down to social anxiety but I'm not sure.
Is it possible to be autistic with only communication problems?
I failed the test and the psychiatrist said it's just anxiety.... but I don't understand how anxiety can cripple your communication skills as badly as mine every day in life
Thought I would grab my diagnosis report to assist, the DSM-5 criteria for ASD advises there must be evidence of difficulties in:
Symptoms must be present in early childhood and cause significant impairment

how the f..k do you prove that symptoms were in childhood?
Your own memories
Info from family members
It was an inward jibe. At actually knowing what you did as a kid. but the response has got me thinking. Thank you.
I have my school report from secondary school. A professional record of achievement. I also have some embroidery from my primary school which is impeccable. And for someone who used to fidget had poor handwriting, I cannot see how I did it.
Aspie literal-mindedness coming to the rescue!
I had a bunch of stories from my childhood that were like 'family legends' e.g.
I shut my best friend at the time in a shed, he cried and got taken home never to return. When I was told this my response was "Good, he was a wimp anyway"
I had the same thing for tea every day for months (maybe longer) - strawberry jam sandwiches until one day I just said "No" and switched to salad cream sandwiches every day for maybe a year until I stopped again - I've never eaten a strawberry jam or salad cream sandwich since.
Stuff that you just accept, because you don't know it's odd...
Just found my MENSA certificate - I know you all have one. But I thought I was very stupid at the time.
Nope - never did the test, I was always worried it would come out lower than I'd like!
I know. But what have you got to lose or gain?
