Assessment result.

Hi,

Just got my diagnosis report, which reads that I 'meet the criteria for ASD.'

I was expecting a number from 1 to 4, as well, which, I think, gives a level of my impairment.

Was I right in expecting this, and/or would a care assessment put a number to it later on?

Hope my question makes sense.

Cheers.

  • Hi, I hope it is a relief for you.  I think that a number(s) giving a level of impairment (relative to meeting basic needs, anxiety / depression, communication for safety etc) would be very useful, contrary to what many believe.  An adult that is mute, and incapable of seeing to their basic needs (feeding themselves) requires very different support to someone like myself who is impaired in a different way.

did they give you anything else? A report / summary?

  • Brilliant, thanks.

I'm still thinking of things to fret about Slight smile

  • Congratulations! I didn't receive a number when I was diagnosed 18 months ago, so I don't think its common practice.

  • Thanks, and yes, it's a blessed relief, mixed with some sadness.

I'm PDA, too, so life would have been a struggle, even if I'd known.

I'm lucky to have got this far, with most of my health, and some of my sanity.

I'll be glad of the tiniest amount of progress, now.

    Thanks again.

  • Congratulations , well from my perspective anyway.

just glad for you finally having reason for so many things.

It can be fairly wobbly once the realisation sinks in. Mood flips are possible, sheeer joy to complete annoyance as it wasn’t spotted earlier and support may have made life more tolerable.

    Be kind to yourself ok.
