Post 16 education and child tax credit

My 16year old son has completed his GCSE exams at his specialist school which doesn't have a sixth form facility.

He was expected to start a course at local college in September but due to his severe anxiety he feels unable to face this in September but needs to study at home for a year before trying to attend college next year.

Is there any form of study we can do at home and still receive child tax credit???

  • Hello. I think you should go to the college you were planning to enroll in and tell me about the situation. Surely they will be able to give you advice on your specific case. It is also worth talking to the psychologist of the school that your son attended. Surely you are not the first parents to face such a situation, and there is already a developed action algorithm in this case. Also, you should add, after you find out what payments you can claim, calculate all taxes, for example, using payrollindex.com to understand which way is most beneficial to you.
