Help in the North West

I went to my GP to begin the process of being diagnosed with Asperger’s. She looked into referring me but then discovered that due to austerity cuts, Stockport NHS has got rid of the adult diagnosis service but I could try and find a local psychologist.

Can anyone in the North-west offer any advice which would help me towards a formal diagnosis, or know of any service I could access please?

Thank you

Danny

  • If you do not already have the official stuff regarding ASD services in your area ~ here is a downloadable PDF link:

    http://www.stockportjsna.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/2015-19-JSNA-Autism.pdf

On page 15 of this PDF ~ it reads, 'In 2015, the government published further statutory guidance that set out what councils and NHS bodies 'must' and 'should' do under nine themes:' of which is number 2. Diagnosis and Assessment.

Here is also another link you may find useful in terms of finding the nearest diagnostic services:

If you have not already gotten one, the NAS can send you a getting diagnosed information pack, so you can go about getting diagnosed using official written leverage. Dial 0808 800 41404 night or day ~ and choose option 4. Request an information pack to be sent., and be ready to ask for a diagnostic info pack and give your name and address.

If you feel you would to like to talk about your issues with someone at the NAS during the day: Monday~Thursday 10am-4pm, and Friday 9am-3pm (except bank holidays), you might well need to call them several times in a row in order to get through ~ as they are more than often very busy indeed with others calling them too.

I hope this information proves in at least some small way useful, and that everything works out well for you.

    Have a good one,
