Just wanted to say hi

Hi!

My little man has recently turned 5 & was officially diagnosed September 2016. Was a bit of a shock as it was brought to our attention by the nursery he was attending at the time. Been a bit of a whirlwind, everything kinda happened in a space of a year.

Ironically didn't spot it myself & I'm a teaching assistant who specialises with children with additional needs (though currently a stay-at-home mommy to my 2 year old daughter & my little dude). So felt a bit stupid that I didn't notice something was up. I just thought he was typical boy, always on the go, doesn't sit still, a bit behind on his speech but again I thought it was because he was one of the younger ones. I always had a reason for his behaviour, took me a long time to accept what they were saying. Now I look at him & there are times where he may as well have a neon sign above his head with Autistic written on it.

I don't have mommy friends so may be on here a lot asking for advice or just to have a moan.

  • Hello Welcome. I haven't been on the forum long but saw no one had said hello to you. Yes I think we can often be blind to what is in front of our noses. And we can see things in others we can't see in ourselves. And whatever our training a diagnosis we're not expecting takes time to adjust to . There is a parents and carers section so you may get more replies from there. I hope you have had a look around to read some of the topics.
