Hi, I'm new and have a quick question

I have a quick question whats the youngest someone can be diagnosed with ASD?

Not sure if makes a difference but I have 2 other children who have been diagnosed already, just my youngest as I keep being told she is too young for them to say

  • Hi Hearts,

As Martian Tom says, children can be diagnosed as early as 2 years old in some cases - however, your doctor might feel that 29 months is still too early to make a definitive diagnosis, and want to wait until your daughter is older in order to have more information and give you a better informed decision, since I think most doctors would prefer to wait and be sure rather than jump the gun and risk making a misdiagnosis.

If you want to speak to someone from the NAS directly to discuss further please call the helpline on 0808 800 4104 - http://www.autism.org.uk/get-involved/about-us/contact-us.aspx

    Thanks,
