  • Welcome Jen to the friendliest most direct speaking group of big hearted people you could ever want to meet and be a part of. We all learn from each other, so I’m sure we will learn things  from you as well.

From my personal experience having just got a diagnosis at 44 it is great to get a diagnosis but has caused a range of emotions as a result. So it’s worth thinking about that aspect with her as well as with yourself.

  • Hi Jen,

The NAS has a free online booklet here on the website called 'After Diagnosis', for parents and carers of children who have just been diagnosed with ASD, with information, advice and support, that you might find helpful. You can find it here: http://www.autism.org.uk/products/leaflets/after-diagnosis.aspx

You may also want to look in the Autism Sevices Directory here - http://www.autism.org.uk/directory.aspx - for related support services in your area, like parental support groups or in-person advice.

If you want to speak to someone directly about what options are available, please call the NAS helpline on 0808 800 4104 (10am-4pm Mon-Thur, 9am-3pm Fri).

Hope this is of some help,

    Ross - mod
