walking on egg shells!!

Hi all, I recently wrote a thread about trying to get my daughter tested for autism. unfortunately I am no further than the brick wall I am banging my head on!! my heart is breaking for my daughter right now. every day is getting more and more stressful for her and I honestly can say I don't know how to help her.

her anxieties and outburst are more or less every day now to the point where she will cry because she doesn't understand why she is feeling the way she does.

Last week she had a complete breakdown because she said she was different. I tried to ask why she thought she was different but she just said because I don't fit in!!

I have gone back to my gp, I have spoken to the school and they have all said about getting a early help referral . has anyone done a early help ? what are you thoughts on it?

I am also still waiting for a out patients appointment to see if the doc feels that my daughter needs to be assessed but they have also said her behaviour and anxieties are down to her moderate learning difficulties

  • Hello

is the waiting list the problem? Here it is 20 months. We got seen more quickly and no one has told us why but my guess is

    - our son was referred to CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health service) by his school and GP at the same time he was referred to the ASDAT (autism spectrum disorder assessment team). He saw CAMHS  quite quickly (he was referred to them because he was depressed with suicidal thoughts, anxious and with OCD). They said the psychiatric problems were due to autism and they sped up the ASDAT appointment I think. Maybe a CAMHS referral would help your daughter? They might have a learning disability specialist who can possibly untangle her problems

    - a friend who works in the field recommended I get some private assessments done to save the NHS time and money. The psychologist was probably most helpful for diagnosis but cost £1000. The Speech and Language Therapist was £200 (her most useful suggestion was for my son to look elsewhere on people's faces so that he doesn't get the burning in his eyes). The Occupational Therapist has been most practical help. She was £250 including some therapy time after (which I think has helped)

i really hope your little girl gets the help she needs soon. It's horrible to see your child suffer.

    Best wishes
