New diagnosis

Hello

i am a mum of a 23 year old who we have suspected for some time has been on the spectrum. He has had a full assessment and tomorrow, we see the consultant for the outcome of the assessment. At the end of the assessment we were told that it has highly likely he would get a diagnosis, more than likely to be along the aspergers side of things.

I guess my question is, what should we be asking at the appointment tomorrow?  If he is given a diagnosis what happens next?

Thank you for any advice

  • Hi Dinoted,

In addition to the page Disallowed Cynosure has helpfully linked to, the other one I would recommend looking at is the 'After Diagnosis' page, which explains a bit about, as you say, what happens next - http://www.autism.org.uk/about/diagnosis/adults/after.aspx

You can find general information about ASD here, possible difficulties you or your child might encounter, and practical information regarding things like housing, benefits, education, employment and so on. There is also contact information at the bottom of the page for the NAS helpline if you would like to speak to someone directly.

    Best wishes,
