Thank you to everyone who has replied to previous posts, I appreciate the comments and advice. I'm rubbish at these forums things but its comforting to know that people are out there who understand the challenges.
I'm struggling at work...struggling to understand the behaviours of my service users and I seem to be making mistakes and having difficulty building effective working relationships with them.
I'm struggling to find a person who can formally diagnose me. Stockport NHS won't fund any out of locality assessment so I need to find something in Stockport. There seems to have been the perfect organisation in Sheffield but my GP (who has been very supportive) has said that it can't be paid for. I'm getting desperate, because I just want to know for sure what is wrong with me.
Thanks
Danny
Hi Danny,
If you look in the Autism Services Directory here on the site - http://www.autism.org.uk/directory.aspx - you can filter for services in your area (e.g. England > North-west > Stockport), and for the type of service (Diagnostic/Assessment) you require. For example I found this place - http://www.autism.org.uk/directory/resources/13471.aspx - which is in Stockport and says it takes NHS referrals, which I think means you shouldn't have to pay, although I don't know for sure, but might be an option worth asking your GP about.
You can also search the NHS services directory for options. This link is filtered for NHS services that deal with autism assessment and diagnosis in Stockport, so might be worth having a look through - https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/Autism/Stockport/Results/73/-2.159/53.407/1808/20225?distance=25
Alternatively, if you want to speak to someone directly, please call the NAS helpline 0808 800 4104.
Best wishes,
